It sounds like the installer didn't replace half the files.

Uninstall 1.02, reboot and then install 1.03 again.

Start8 Version 1.00
Start8 Version 1.01
Start8 Version 1.02
Start8 Version 1.03

Hi,

Thanks for the new version. Until now i didn't have a explorer restart. Wait and see now. The new version has lots of cool things. Two things that i still would like to see are:

Mouse middle-click or right-click: open start 8 screen.

Also the ability to change the left-right windows key functions. I want to open start 8 screen with left Windows Key and with right windows key open start8 menu.

Thanks

One undocumented thing is a middle button click on the start button should open the Win8 menu.

This reminds me of how Java works nowadays, it installs a new version and the previous version is still there.  Back in the '90s, when a new version of Java came out, it would replace the previous version with the updates it needed.

Go to the website and click on the trial link again.  Enter your e-mail address and you will get a new link.

It may be best to uninstall the existing version, reboot and then install the new version.  If nothing else after install make sure to reboot as files are not always replaced until after a reboot.

I had the trial 1.02 and bought 1.03. You really have a great thing here!

I noticed the uninstaller for 1.02 said to "close start8" before uninstalling, but there isn't an obvious way to do that. I stopped the service, then killed the process, but the start8 menu still worked for some reason. anyway, the uninstall seemed to work, and I rebooted before installing 1.03. that method seems to work fine, although it may be true that people will want a more intuitive installer/uninstaller.

Also, it seems that 1.03 fixed an issue i had with multiple monitors before i could even tell you about it. basically the "windows 8" style wast not working, but now it is. I plan to use the win7 style for now though.

Great work!

Great update, thank you. The top-left hot corner works, when the task-bar is set vertically on the left. "Disable bottom left hot corner when the taskbar overlaps it" has to be unchecked. Is there a way to disable the huge vertical black bar that appears, when moving the mouse vertically, after enabling a hotspot?

Well the middle-click dont work for me. Cant you make right click? I use this awsome tool:

http://www.ocellated.com/2009/06/04/taskbar-overlord/

Basically i use middle-click to close programs on taskbar. It's a really fast and the best way to do it. If you could just use right mouse click to go to start screen, or just apply the middle-click mouse button to close any program on taskbar. That would be truly the best thing on start8...

Start8 seems to take over the Winkey+Function key shortcuts. I use Min2Tray and set Win+F8/F12 for various functions ("window always on top" etc.). Now, these shortcuts still work but they will also take me to the Metro Start screen, which is unwanted. I'm not sure if this is Start8's fault, because I also use Directory Opus with non-Function key shortcuts (WIN+A etc.) and they work normally.

It sounds like that might be a problem with Min2Tray and Windows 8.  With the exception of the Winkey + ctrl and winkey + shift options (which are off by default), we are not registering any hotkeys.

Have you tried unloading Start8 briefly to see if it has any impact?

You can do this by opening a command prompt in the Start8 install directory and running Start8 UNLOAD.  To restart it just run start8.exe again.

Thanks for replying Neil. I tried it and Min2tray's shortcuts work normally when Start8 is unloaded. When Start8 is opened, the problem comes back. The Start screen appears instantly when the Win key is released (if used in conjunction with an F key of course). It looks like there's some sort of conflict between the two programs.

Why are you unable to install over the existing version?

Because every time it makes another Start8 entry in Programs and functions

Every time it just dont work, some older files always stay and make mess

And I have to reboot?!

if I uninstall older version and install new none of this happen
