I'm surprised. Any takers? What do you think vs. Old School Diablo 2, the promise of Path of Exile, and D3?

I've secretly been blabbing about it in another thread

tis fun.  Have a buddy that is super pissed because it seems to cause major crashes on some higher end nvidia cards and there is currently no fix in sight.  That said, my experience has been good and I'm enjoying the game.

Much better relationship of monsters to environment than in the Diablo and Fate series.  Much larger game, lots more monsters, some pretty nasty traps.  Game ramps up difficulty of dungeons for the second city you travel to a bit too quickly in my opinion, though I'm playing on veteran.  Spell are far, far too few, and haven't found anybody selling them.  Like the new enchant system.

Am I not playing right or does every attack use mana?

One thing I like in Diablo is that they have a wimpy attack that uses no mana and then the good attack which does.

You basic weapon attack uses no mana, but every single active skill uses it.  If you've got good weapons though your basic attack makes a good backup for dealing with low numbers of weak monsters.

EDIT: Or if you're using the Outlander just throw your glaive and instantly gib them.  That thing is the No. 1 skill to level as the Outlander since it does Charge, DPS, and crowd control with its rebounding.

I love it so far. Much better then Diablo 3. I can't get any good loot in that game and I already have 2 set pieces and a unique in TL2.

By default they set your autoattack to an active, mana using skill.  You can change it to a vanilla auto attack that doesnt use mana, which is likely what you will need to do.

Quoting Frogboy,

If you've got skills that must be activated to use, they're mana-based.  And if you right-click to attack, you'll use these skills.  Left-click, instead.  That just uses your default attack with current weapons, plus any passive skills (and these shouldn't use up mana).

Having a lot more fun with Torchlight 2 than D3. D3 seems geared towards lots and lots of grinding whereas T2 makes the grind feel less like a grind, if that makes any sense.

Agreed:   Torchlight 2 > D3

I'm about 60 hours into it now, playing a Duel Wielding Summoner Outlander on Elite difficulty.  Haven't even reached Act III yet!

Sure, Torchlight II is entirely derivative and virtually free on any new ideas, but it's so damn well executed that it's almost impossible to call it out for that.  It's fast, fluid, and feels like it's just itching to let me have fun.

For comparison: I logged into my friend's Diablo III account and finished the whole game in about 6-7 hours.  It's was the most boring ARPG I've ever played.
