Open with Objectdock

This post is mainly for the Stardock tech team.

After countless days of trying to figure out how to open a .dockzip file with virtually no information regarding this topic other than others, like me, trying to open these files, and trying every suggestion found, I finally succeeded. Out of sheer frustration and with nothing to lose, I used my right click menu to open with ObjectDock and it worked like a charm.

My question is why does no one at Stardock know this? I read about the frustration and lack of product material, and I read the responses which frankly, are utterly lacking in helpfulness most of the time for those of us trying to make use of the products you sell and promote, and I am amazed your company is still in business. It has to be the products (the ones I have purchased are awesome).

Well, now you have the answer to a question that has plagued many of a purchaser of your software, and it is so simple.  Using the right click context menu, open the .dockzip file with ObjectDock. This only has to be done once. Just double-click on any subsequent .dockzip files and your file is opened and automatically placed in the correct folder - much easier than dealing with zip files.

New ObjectDock users who have .dockzip files downloaded, but unopened, will be alot happier with you all.

you were all happy with what you now say that only by chance you succeeded in doing... so what's the deal?

.dockzip files were not widely used.  They made things a bit easier but never really caught on. This explains why you won't find much information about using them, past or current. The format hasn't been used in years.

As for the forums not being helpful, perhaps you should have voiced your question about the .dockzips in said forums first.  Not asking for help and then complaining about lack of same is somewhat pointless

Probably the only time you'll have a problem with .dockzip files is when you don't have the program installed to which they are associated....aka ObjectDock.

Once the association is made "Just double-click on any subsequent .dockzip files and your file is opened and automatically placed in the correct folder - much easier than dealing with zip files."

.psp files are associated with PaintShop Pro.  Once you have the program installed you also can double-click and the correct proggy will open/handle them.

.psd files are associated with Adobe Photoshop.....  I think you can see where I'm heading....

Most [not all] skin-specific archive files are simply renamed .zip's ....archives with an extension that Windows Explorer can set an 'association' for the program.  .wba is for Windowblinds.  That too isn't magical - 'wba' stands for 'windowblinds archive'...

Quoting Jafo,

Well, I have to say that I never cared for dockzip files. They did extract when double clicked, but I could never make use of anything that came from a dockzip. Things, for me, never ended up being where they needed to be for easy use.

Just my experience.
