I. BUGS
For starters, let me say that .913 seems to be the buggiest version since .80. Crashing like a mofo.
A) Still having an issue with ranged attack animation. Half the time they work fine, the other we still get that delay followed by projectiles coming in from the side of the screen. Changelog said that was fixed, so it's worth mentioning.
Casting Heal or Grow on a unit in Tac Combat sometimes makes that unit replay the animation for whatever their last action was (so Healing a group of Archers makes them play their attack animation)
C) A few times where a unit's Action Bar will not appear during their turn in Tac Combat. Seems to happen more frequently after a "mass" style spell or a multi-turn cast.
D) Enemy (AI) units sometimes don't resolve their turn properly in Tac Combat, so everything just kind of sits there waiting until I hit "Autoresolve."
E) Pretty sure this is a bug: AI was creating "Chosen" units which, in a group of 3, had a total attack of 3 Cold. This is pointless. Don't do this.
F) Every part of the AI Nation/Neutral Monsters relationship seems undercooked. Nations will skip goodie huts, and in return, the neutrals don't torch their aggressively placed outposts like they should (and like they DO when I try that nonsense).
II. COMMENTS
A) Holy bajoley, Fireball is powerful.
This comment dates back to the WoM days: PLEASE give me an option to view a city's details when selecting a city upgrade. I don't want to take Training Yard in a city with 2 materials that won't be building my armies.
C) I forget what it's called, but there's a trait that gives "+3 Accuracy vs enemies with lower initiative" which is a tough sell when it's up against a trait that adds "+10 Accuracy." Conditional bonuses need to be WORTH it. I'm sure this was already on your balance pass "to do" list.
D) Prestige finally feels right! I captured a bunch of enemy cities and my growth rates plummeted across the kingdom! I recently played the Warlock: Master of the Arcance demo and thought, "wow, this is pretty cool except there's absolutely no reason to not just spam cities everywhere!" Paradox needs to be taking some of those young STARDOCK NOTES, yo.
E) Link city income to population? I know research is based on pop, but it looks like that's it.
F) The Advanced Agriculture tech seems pretty weak given it's length. I know it's there as a repeatable "congrats on running out of things to research" tech, but still.
G) Things are starting to take shape. I had a lovely albeit crash-laden game on Challenging that felt like a real game in which actions had consequences and everything happened in a logical fashion. I didn't find myself saying "why the hell did that AI player just ____________?"
And with that I'm off to start a new game. I'm running a Tarth/Archer/Hunter/Air1/Earth1 sovereign. I'm trying to see how he fares vs. casters in the late game (spidey sense tells me he might be weak unless I find a truly godlike bow). I kind of want to start near one of the weaker wildlands (I can handle it, and OMG ALL THE GOODIES!).
Keep it up - this is starting to feel like an actual game.
