[CTD]
I was attempting to load my save after taking a break for about an hour. No matter what I try, the save will not load, and the whole game crashes each time it tries.

Notes about the game:
Playing as a custom Kingdom with a custom sovereign. Game is currently many hundreds of turns in. Victory is possible through alliances, but nothing else.
Through the course of the game, I have noticed a few unusual things now and again.
1) At some point, during a war with Altar, I started getting messages about desertions. I checked the Hiergamenon for the rules about desertions to see what might be cause it, and there are no rules about it that I can find. My tax rate was never above normal, so that shouldn't be it. I was fighting a very protracted war with Altar, however, and I was considered the underdog most of it (despite the fact that I was utterly crushing them). The desertion thing came to a head with the complete disappearance of one of my cities (a former Altar city). No monsters attacked it. I know this because the garrison was still standing there in the aftermath. In fact, I think they're still alive in the replacement city I built. Why I think this is related is because maybe one turn before I noticed the city was missing, I got a massive spam about desertions. Either the Hiergamenon needs to explain desertions, or there's some code going haywire here.
2) Unit strength calculations are a little off. Most of my battles have been won by a couple near indomitable heroes. These heroes have dodge ratings in the 60s, and attack ratings of similar nature. No magic at all. Typically, they strike quickly and kill their opponent before it even has a chance to react. One of them has been doing this ever since she acquired a mace that causes the opponent to shrink. Anyway, these indomitable heroes have been rated "weak" for most of the game. Recently, they've moved up to "moderate", and one is even "strong". They're level 22ish now. Conversely, my sovereign is rated Epic (and is only 1 or 2 levels ahead of these two), and she couldn't take them on even with magic.
3) Tactical spell cost reduction - There are a couple issues with this.
The first is that while the game only makes me pay the reduced cost, it makes the spells unavailable to cast if I am below the original cost. For example, fireball is normally a 30 mana spell. With various advantages, I have gotten this down to 15. However, if I have, say, 22 mana remaining, the game will put a big X over the fireball spell, even though it actually costs less than 22.
Second, if ever you get a total cost reduction of 100%, the system resets and charges you the full mana cost. I started my character with the staff that gives 25% off, then at level up gave her a trait that gave her another 25% off. Finally, I acquired an enchantment that gives 50% off. Total = 100% off. Cost I paid, full price. Mind you, I wouldn't expect to have free spells! I am just mentioning it because it looks like the system needs a little reworking. Especially since there's another way to get an additional 25% off for a total of 125% off!
4) Units don't want to enter cities if there are already 6 units there, even when the city has leveled up to the stage where it can accept 9 units. They will enter the city if you keep trying, but only one at a time. Groups absolutely refuse.
5) After long hours (4+) of leaving the game running, the tactical battle sounds stopped working. There was no effect on strategic sounds.
6) After long hours (4+) of leaving the game running, a noticeable frame rate loss was encountered. This may be somewhat related to the save games being broken, as this was when I made those saves.
7) Several quests seem to be broken. However, I can't get the quest names since I can't get into the save game
Let me end this bug report with one final comment. I love where you are going with this. Game play is outright FUN. Except for a few broken things here and there, this doesn't even feel like a beta. Most things are balanced and working.
