Like the title, I try to discuss about the problem that actually come from the WOM from the first place. Yes, we all know that EWOM is actually lack of focus. But, this thread is not about to blame the developer about this. We discuss, and try to understand about the core of our problem
Let see. We know that EWOM have a lot of feature, it was the spiritual successor of Master of Magic, and (I think), a merge between Galciv 2 and MOM (this is my personal opinion). The problem is, non of the feature can offer "A LOT" excitement to the gamers. People can say about "Lack of focus" on this part. But even with focus, EWOM is lack of "Core Feature".
Let say, Civilization. We know that Civilization has "V" on it's title. Civilization has a lot of feature to offer, but still, it has only one core feature that what make Civilization as Civilization. You know what kind of feature is it, as you buy Civilization game just because of this "Sole" core feature. That's civilization building.
Now, EWOM. what do we have. What is EWOM. Everyone know that EWOM has a lot of feature, but still it lack of one sole "Core Feature". That's what make EWOM as EWOM, and why people come to buy Elemental : War of Magic (and it's sequel) from the first place.
So... if the developer still want to develop EWOM, they should focus on it's core feature first. Forget the other, just concentrate on the core feature and expand it. Because, with this sole core feature, EWOM can become anything and go anywhere. Even with a single feature, the game can be fun and over a lot of challenge.
So..., I think, we should split the feature to two "feature level".
1st. The Core Feature : This is what EWOM can be considered as EWOM. Each feature give impacts to the win - lose situation in the game, give unlimited choice of strategy, help to expand the players creativity to find a winning strategy to beat the AI / another players.
2nd Cosmetic Feature : This is not an important feature and just be there for fan service.
Core features :
Everyone know about what is EWOM. It is a civilization game that happen in a post apocalypse fantasy world (while FE has more focus on different paths). The developer consider EWOM as the spiritual "Sequel" for Master of Magic. So, I think, the core feature for EWOM are, actually :
- Civilization type of game (Pioneer, city, build city, develop city, defend city, attack city, etc)
- Magic
- Sovereign
So, before the developer go anywhere, please expand these three "Core Feature" first. You can't do it in an instant, as it require a lot of experience and feedback to make it fun. For now, forget about everything else. Forget about Heroes, dynasty, research, troop editor, tactical battle, etc. Just concentrate on how to make the core feature work and fun. Because with only these three feature alone, you can make a game that full of fun and offer unlimited replayability.
