This month marks the two year anniversary of Demigod's initial release. It's time to start thinking about its future.

If you had your way, what would you do with Demigod?

For example: For a Demgiod v1.5, what key tweaks would you do in that?

For a Demigod expansion, what would you do in that?

For a Demigod sequel, what would you do in that?

We'd like to hear how you guys would like to see Demigod evolve in the future.

I bought this game about a year ago and it has become my goto game, I too have only ever played it in SP and agree with the other single players ideas/opinions and things like the tournament could also enhance the MP experience.

I too think DGII would be the way to go, as  long as its not dumbed down, the grafix and soundtrak are of equal quality at least, it's what made it stand out from others and it was awesome.

My 2 cents:- a bit more randomness, like towers replaced by Imoveable behemoth guards that are upgradeable like towers and have a unique look for good and evil, a magic one, crossbow and sword one?? bridges winnable like flags??

- I think a too many Demi Gods would leed to slight variants with different skins, what's the point? make any new ones viably different as a character and tacticly, water creature, susceptible to magic, less so to melee has a wave attack that pushes all away from him doing damage??

- Experience for destroying structures.

- A map creater would be awesome and anything that engages the community would be a bonus, map competitions, mods.

If DGII came out tommorrow with SP I would be straight there with dollars in hand, I would probly play MP but SP offers that stress free playability when your there with beer and nibles.

Thankyou.

I bought Demigod after seeing it at a friend of mine played it, and immediately bought it... like June 2009 or something. I loved the game, the single-player experience, but when trying to get more into the game with multiplayer I ran against a wall. It was just frustrating getting into a game only to have a slow connection, people leaving. It just wasn't fun at all. That's the reason I didn't stay with Demigod.

2010 another friend told me about Heroes of Newerth, which is basically a Defense of the Ancients-Clone from another indie developer. The game was incredibly hard to get into: no single-user-campaign, an overloaded interface, seventy different heroes... But (this is a big but), when I started playing multiplayer everything went so smooth. You just clicked matchmaking, wait about 30 seconds, and got into a fast paced game with 9 equally skilled opponents, and rarely does a player leave. You play for ingame coins, which can be used to buy visual (and only visual!) upgrades, keeping me hooked till today, and making me overlook the overly complex introductionary phase.

I hope Stardock reads this, as I still love your company, and wish to see a new improved Demigod experience.

tldr: What Demigod 2 needs is a working multiplayer experience and regular updates to keep the community hooked. To finance this an ingame shop seems to be the accepted norm today.

Well - here's a quick bit of info (old hat for most, though).  This game could receive updates more updates if Stardock determined it was a good thing to do (eg worth additional investment).  That might sound crass, but even though this did just go live on steam, its been out for 2 1/2 + years now.  So, as far as normal games go, its been through a bit of a support cycle already.  The biggest win for Demigod would be updated netcode (eg imagine close to 100% lag free game play in this great game).  Barring that, patches to fix identified bugs would be awesome (our uberfix mod already does this, but it should probably be in the game itself).  And last - the one or two shot approach - a new map or some new dg's. You really need to do the math for this one, though.   Let's say having 2 new dg's and a new map created would cost Stardock 15k.  Now, let's just say they decide to charge $10 for the DLC (sounds crazy considering most folks got this game on steam for like $7 - but I'd gladly pay $10 for that and so would many others).  That means you have to move 1,500 units of DLC to break even.  The question is 1) Is that possible? and 2) if so, how much can they exceed that number.  So, even then, the real question is what GPG will charge to code it.  I know I threw out 15k, but what if they charge something even more substantial... anyway...

The way things work is that Stardock (publisher) would need to contact GPG and request either some patches or additional content.  Then they'd work out a price and figure out some sort of schedule.

Anyway, the Demigod fan in me would love to see improved netcode (but I don't think it will happen), would love to see a bugfix patch (sounds great, but then there's still the netcode), and would love to see new characters or maps (I doubt it, but this seems like the best possible venue for additional profit).  I think I'd certainly fire up DG again for a new map or 1 or 2 new dgs.  It does take more than a few games to master any DG you know.

game needs to have chatabble lobby.

Also, easier to set up multi person chat conversations.

And, introducing Vivox voice into game or similar would be awsome.

until then, there is this teamspeak voice server for playing.

True True, But shitty browser games are played by millions for a few reasons.

1. Easy to learn and mindless fun in seconds. No learning period needed (demigod I say is about 100-200 hours before you got a grip on things to play ok)

2. Browser games just load and WORK in seconds. No time wasted waiting for a game. Many people HATE the RTS lobby thing, some games combat this like company of heros with a quick automatch <1minute wait.

3. Cheap, No mega download, low system requirements, low net requirements.

Demigod:

LONG LONG waits.

Crashes.

HUGE system requirements.

HUGE net requirements Including custom port and firewall tweaks needed that MOST people have no idea on.

MEGA learning time.

Nasty,rude hateful community.

So after 1year of debates/suggestions is there anything gonna be done?

Can`t this game just go free2play (make all demigods free + 3 maps, and charge around 5$ or 7$ for the favor items and the rest of the maps). This way Stardock gets some profit and we get more players (at the moment the game is a ghost town).

From my point of view, I will not buy Demigod 2 if it`s made by Chris Taylor and gas powerd dung

OR make the game free on a weekend on steam

OR declare this game dead and move on (profit!!?)

Oh Non nononononono!

Long waits...sure. At times. But last night there was 6 games open and 4 ongoing....pretty good!

Crashes....Well, this is more because of the players computer I think. Also some people find a way to crash games they dont want to loose . This is sadly true....

Huge system requirements? What the hell are you talkiing about?!?!?! Ok if you got a crap laptop or playing on a Mac with a sucky graphic card, but doh.....No. I played DG on a 5 year old computer (Desktop of course...sod off Laptops!). DG is VERY friendly towards what system you got.

Huge net requirements? WHAT??!?!?! Sure, I play myself on a very good stable connection. But I have even played DG on my PHONE as internet....Stop downloading porn (when you play. Please do not stop downloading outside gaming) and you will be fine!

Mega learning time? Pfff! DG is easy to learn but HARD to get good. What are you...a WoW kiddie who wants highest level on your first 10 mins? DG is just fine, and one or the MAIN reasons why the game is good is just that you can still learn something new every day. Also....this game is highly dependent on your own skill. I am not very good even if I played alot.... . this is a GREAT feature since most games out there are so bloody easy!

Nasty and rude community? What the *bleep* are you talking about you *bleep* *bleep* *bleep* and * bleep!

*BLEEEP* ,,!,,

In spite of LoL being "superior" in almost every way (except for all of the champs looking like a bad cross between Jar Jar Binks and the enslaved elves at Santa's Siberian workshop...), I still get a mad itch to play demigod every now and then...  I love the fatalistic & gothic atmosphere...

This is an old thread asking what Demigod (or DG2) could be if it were touched up or whathaveyou - I'm guessing that a lot of the incremental suggestions will be largely along the lines of 'make the meta-game more like LoL' as well as the scope (items, champs, damage types, etc).

What I think about being the next leap in 'trial by combat' type genres is allowing players to design their own champs/maps/items and play those.  This effectively achieves a few different goals at once:

-allows for lots and lots of replayability. (face it, LoL and Demigod are fairly monotonous in nature)

-allows for copious amounts of content generation by the community (people always want more of everything)

-promotes some forking of game type/style allowing people who want different things to have it

Obviously, figuring out balance and logistical issues for the ruleset/framework would be hugely difficult (isn't this what customers pay other people to do when they buy a game?).  But once this framework is established it could potentially support an unlimited amount of fill (for example, an unlimited number of balanced content could be added so long as the rules of the framework assign appropriate tradeoffs for this content - ie champs might be designed on a point-system whereby only a certain number of points can be assigned across various attributes for characteristics, level scaling, etc; items would be assigned cost depending upon the intensity of their attribute skew away from mediocre stats; and map characteristcs could possibly crimp various attributes (vision range, speed through terrain, damage types, etc) lending to interesting play strategies that are terrain/map dependent; etc).

Also obviously, easy to use tools, skins, templates, etc would also be necessarily required to be available for the community as well (a la 'Spore' creature creation?).

Just a thought...

Any second Demigod should be just like the first, only addressing the shortcomings of the first game.  That is, it should still be the 3/4 perspective MOBA style game it is, it should be just an moddable and have LAN play; while, at the same time, fixing online connectivity and lag, adding more gods, maps and general content.

Above all, the humour of the game should no be abandoned.
