Hi,
A brief log to show it can be quite hard to get a working update to Elemental (on Vista HP SP2), using a standard non-Admin account.
I wanted to upgrade to the beta 1.1, so showed BETAs in Impulse, and pressed update for Elemental. The normal request for the admin password came up, and after that the update started. The update processing seemed to finish OK, extracting 230 datasets. I started the game, but it was still the old version 1.09e. I tried updating at least 5 times, no luck. The Elemental folder never showed anything newer than October 08, which I think was the last pre-1.1 update.
Then I tried "download and archive". That downloaded over 1 Gb of data, before stopping with the message "file downloaded is smaller than expected". I was not looking at the exact figure reported by Impulse, but the full expected file in the update progress shows as 1,89 GB.
Silly me, I then uninstalled without archiving first
, and tried the install again - same message about the download file being "smaller than expected". So then I had no game at all... Next I re-installed without BETAs being shown and this worked; I was back in business, but still on 1.09e.
Then the beta again... 14,93 MB download, 230 dataset extracted, installed, activated, and then:... No luck, the game still shows 1.09e.
Against all hope, try once more, now from the "Updates" tab, running as Administrator, ignoring the warnings Impulse gives when running as admin.
This time it ran very SLOW, but produced the result "update complete"! I was finally able to start a game in the BETA 1.09n.
Noghanimus.
