Elemental: War of Imperialism [Working Title]

ELEMENTAL: War of Imperialism

Idea:

The point of this mod is to recreate a fun but historically accurate simulation of the 17th and 19th century. I hope to incorporate many of the things that made this time period so pivotal in the shaping of history such as musket warfare, colonization, and great naval battles. I also want to show the intricate governments of the time and the beginning of the transition from monarchy to republics.

Current plans:

Replace bows and x-bows with muskets
Muskets will be inaccurate but have massive morale penalties (if there is morale, if not, I will try to find a substitute)
Replace factions with historically correct nations.
Give each nation its own individual traits
Replace vanilla ships with historical counterparts
Add cannons if not in vanilla
Make period based maps including, The Americas, the Bahamas, Europe, The Mediterranean, Central Europe, India, and a grand map that would contain Europe, America, and parts of Africa and Asia.
Make melee have a serious morale penalty
Change economics to fit the mass scale of the mod
Add new recourses
Add Historical leaders, generals, and admirals

Hello. I just want to announce that I am planning on making a 18th-19th-ish century mod for EWAM.

I will creat historicly accurate NPC's and recreat many major factions of the time (e.i. prussia, russia, Great Britan)

I will also try to add musketry via creating a spell that would have the same effect of bullets and allowing infantry to use it.

Finally, I intend on offering many diffrent ship trypes, new items, new quests, and more.

Ambitious. I don't think you'll need to go so far as having musketeers casting a "shoot gun" spell. I'm pretty sure you can edit the scripting to get a black-powder type effect.

I was thinking that I could use the spells as special abilites to your nations, but I'm not quite sure how that would work out.

Nation Spells

Prussia- Forcemarch (all infantry has twice movement speed for 20 turns)

Britain- Shipsmiths (all current ships have +2 attack and +2 defense)

Russia- Harsh Winters (all enemy units in territory are dealt 2 damage per turn, lasts 20 turns)** only to 90% damage max

Ottomans- Charge! (all mounted units double movement and double combat speed for 5 turns)

Spain- Spirits of Toledo (free Iron deposit near city of your choice, forge in every city)

France- For the Nation (2 free militia units in each city)

Venice- Bounty of Venetzia (free Sea Fortress in every coastal city)

Nation Traits

France- Nationalism (infantry trains 50% faster at 20% resource reduction)

Britain- Sea Breeze (naval units +1 movement and +1 combat speed)

Spain- Armada (naval units cost 30% less resources)

Prussia- Traditions (land units +1 attack, +1 defense)

Venice- Hardy (sea fortresses give +50% defense bonus)

Ottomans- Invaders (artillery +1 attack, mounted units +1 attack, +1 movement)

Russia- Peons (cities grow twice as fast, infantry have -2 HP)

Unique Units

France- Partisan (weak infantry unit, cheap, fast train time -> cost effective way to mobilize population vs stronger foes)

Prussia- Prussian Guard (medium strength infantry unit, double combat speed)

Ottomans- Sipahi or Jannisary (very strong cavalry unit- expensive)

Ottomans- ?? (strong artillery unit- expensive)

Venice- ?? (naval transport, high defense, high movement, low attack)

Venice- Venetzian Raider (infantry unit, high attack, low defense, can attack from ships at no penalty, ignores Sea Fortress bonus)

Russia- Imperial Elite (very strong infantry, very expensive, slow to train)

Spain- Her Majesty's Pride (very strong ship, very expensive)

Britain- Sea Scourge (medium strength ship, high defense, high combat speed)

** unique units can be handled by a unique piece of equipment (if no static units)

Great General powers (each nation may only have one great general at one time. each nation may only cast a single power once per battle, during the tactical battle)

Russia- Stalemate (enemy combat speed halved for 5 turns)

Prussia- Military Formation (Prussian infantry units' defense is doubled for 5 turns)

Ottomans- Sally Forth (ottoman artillery combat speed doubled for 5 turns)

France- Nation's Pride (all infantry units recover 50% HP)

France- Tactical Retreat (all units successfully retreat from the battlefield, army moves 2 tiles towards nearest city)** cannot be cast during a city defense battle

Venice- Venetzian Pride (one unit invincible for 5 turns)

Spain- (her) Majesty's Glory (all units' morale restored to max)

Britain- Tactical Momentum (all units' combat speed +1 for 5 turns)

Tech Tree Emphasis

Spain -> armored soldiers, bigger ships

Britain -> faster ships, longer range cannons

Venice -> Defense, Trade, (diplomacy?)

Russia -> Prestige, Economy(gold)

France -> Faster Troop Training, Increased Cost effectiveness w/ Infantry

Ottomans -> Massive Artillery, Elite Cavalry

Prussia -> better, more expensive land units (mltry diplomacy/espionage?)

Just to bounce some ideas off of you..

I think faction wise you should consider including the Portuguese and Dutch. Both were very active in both the New World and Far East during the time period you want to cover.

Some other things to think over:

Britain - excellent ships, possibly give them a diplomatic bonus? British were infamous for making deals and treaties with locals, at least in India.

France - maybe give them access to a cheap "native" type soldier to represent their alliances with local peoples to supplant their traditionally low population in the New World.

Spain - bonus labor? Well known for exploitation of labor and assimilation of locals. Population growth bonus perhaps?

Russia - They are pretty infamous for their low quality troops (which meant there were a lot of them). They also had pretty intrepid explorers. Russians explored some mountain ranges like the Tien Shan during the Age of Imperialism. That is noteworthy.

Ottomans - Probably not as significant in this period but the Ottoman Janissary were christian born. Perhaps you could model this by giving them a chance to convert defeated enemy units into their elite unit?

I think you are spot on with Prussia. The one thing Prussians are known for is their military and their industriousness. Blood and Iron!

Just some ideas for you. I hope you are able to pull this together. I'd love to give it a try.

Dude, man, I don't even know where to begin. They only started talking to the natives after the natives had killed each other in large amounts because the british started a civil war. This is in a way diplomacy, but they only started being relatively nice after they onwed the country. Which is to say not very nice since the Sepoy War wasn't flowers and smiles.

Better would be something concerning the British Albion, since all of their politics from 1660 to 1918 derives from this. Or the blockades which won WW1. Or the industrialization. This was after all the most dramatic change in the entire history of humankind since, well, farming in 8000 BC.

I was thinking more about the route the British East India company took. Their initial footholds in India were due to diplomacy rather than force of arms.

But they were not the best at that, so it wouldn't be a british special ability. The only reason they could take India was their victory in the seven years war.

What I would think the nations activated abilities are (can be used several times (once every 100 turns or something)):

Prussia- Disciplined - No bad morale for 20 turns.
Austria- Great Culture - Increased Prestige and diplomacy for 10 turns
Great Britian- Engineering Breakthrough - One free technology
France - Upper Class/Enlightment - Get one step closer to revolution
Revolutionary France - What Tasunke said
Spain- Heritage of Kings - One random minor nation will join you for 20 turns then rebel.
Portugal- The Exploration - All units gain +1 move for 10 turns
Venice- Great Coffers - Get a pile of gold/trade bonus
Russia- What Tasunke said.
Poland-Lithuania - Unity through Disunity - Gain 1 random unit in every city
The Ottoman Empire - Siege - Every city that has one of your artillery pieces next to it (in a group probably), has 5 turns to remove that piece or lose the city.
Sweden- War Effort - Units train faster but income is lowered for 20 turns

No one was better at it than them. Just look at their empire. They were very good at forging alliance and cutting deals and taking advantage of the situation. Although maps show India as being purely controlled by British, many petty rulers remained as a testament to the fact Britain didn't just walk in with the army and conquer everything.

I'll be updating later on what should be in the first release, but dont hold it to me.

Edit: Allright, looking at what I have, I should be able to make the effect of musket fire. Animations and such will come later and models for a musket I do not have. My next objective will be to up the effect of swords and add pikes and whatnot. What I need right now is someone who can model uniforsms and muskets and such.

Any help beyond that would be greatly appricated.

Finally, I think a title change would be most fitting! Ideas of mine include "Steel Blackpowder and Treachory", "Raise the Banners High" and "The 17-19th century mod for elemental war of magic"
