What on earth is this game and how do you play it???

OK, so here we go. Demigod doesn't have tutorials to explain new players what on earth is going on. Yeah, I know you know. But I didn't expect such a simple game to be so illogical. It - makes -absolutely -no - sense! So for a weird, 'original' game such as this, some really super-solid tutorials would be a must. Because it most certainly is not intuitive at all. So I look up the internet for information, but all I see is stuff I already know, useless stuff that doesn't tell you anything about the game, or stuff that just doesn't make any sense, such as... I see other playing the game, and managing to stay alive, upgrade stuff, and destroy enemy buildings. Now, that to me is a mystery.

My problems are as such:

I play against an easy AI opponent, yet I get my ass killed over and over, really easy, really fast. While destroying any tower of the enemy is impossibly hard. So instead of actually playing the game, I just die. And I don't get to learn anything from this whole experience, because trying, blindly, to stay alive, doesn't yield any results, and any information. Nothing makes any sense. This is what you call "easy"?? Cuz you know, if I could actually learn the game, I might have a chance to play it. But if the simplest form of playing this game is "complete madness and chaos"...

The game can't be paused? The pause button doesn't actually... pause the game... (???) So how am I supposed to learn anything about it if I can't stop to think? And trying to learn what those upgrades are just wastes in-game time and gets me killed. Trying, because I haven't managed to learn anything, I don't have time to read about the upgrades.. because I get killed, and without upgrades, I'm also useless. How can you possibly be so *** to not have the game pause when the player opens the upgrades window....??... Unbelievable. I think you should only let people upgrade after the game is finished, and the upgrades should stay with the character. Yeah, I understand that's a different game. But that would make more sense, and give the player a sense of accomplishment, not having to start from zero with each game.

The minions. Do you control them at all? Or do they do just random stuff... One youtube video was saying you can't control them, so I presume that must be so... But that's ridiculous. They don't seem to be doing anything right, or helpful, like all AI in any computer game, it's useless, when it comes to helping you in any way. So if I can't control them, to send them where I want them to be, what are they good for? Wasting time? What kind of strategy game is this, where you can't devise any strategy?....

I'm sure there'd be way more, if I'd spend more time with Demigod, but I just lost all interest in fighting this ridiculous game. I understand how ridiculous I am as well, don't worry Complaining about something I don't even understand... But you should "understand this" (quoting a certain dude... Gandalf): the reason I didn't understand a thing about the game is because you designed it as such. To be illogical and frustrating. And because I'm frustrated with it, I don't want to play it anymore, and I hate you all And I also wanted you guys to know that, of course.

First off instead of making a pointless post complaining and bitching about why you can't beat anything in the games just makes you look like a 12 year old snobby brat. Instead why not actually try asking for help, you posted so I know you can look into the strategy section which explains everything you just whined about in great detail. You say you have watched others play, but did you even bother to learn what they did? Did you watch what upgrades they got, what skills they selected, what items they bough, examined how they played with that demigod? Or did you just open up a game and watch demigods duck it out expecting the knowledge of what the hell was going on to be magically passed into you like you were a damn highlander?

Their is a damn difference between minions and creep wave, and seeing how you made this long rant Idoubt you understand what that difference so here is a crash course

Minions = shambler, lighting balls, yetis, spirits, nightcrawlers, and idols

creeps= things that appear magically out of the portal

minions can be controled; n= select everything, m= select minions only, o= regroup around demigod, i select general unique minions only, 7= select berserker, 8= select siege, 9= select priests.

Creaps follow a set route and cannot be controlled, and only general demigods have minions.

Before war rank 7, and catapults come out towers rape creeps, and afterwards towers become pointless.

No the game cannot be paused but it can be slowed down to a standstill making it easier to get a feel of the game, pausing the game would be a useless feature really. Either take your tell to strategy section and read the actually guides their or leave and give your copy of the game to someone who won't actually bitch when they can't understand a game.

He more then a problem, he could have simply asked for help, or go into the strategy section and read all the guides in strategy section. Did he do that, no he came here with a pointless rant about how he hate the came cause he can't beat the ai on easy.

This game is incredibly simple to play. Waves of creeps go from the portals toward the enemy's static defenses. These creeps are of equal power, and your job is to turn the tide. At the beginning you're really weak, so you don't just rush to their towers and hack away. The most important thing to do is upgrade the creep waves (priests -> angels -> catapultsaurii, and finally giants)

To do this, you need to gain warscore, which you do by holding flags. So, basically the game boils down to whether you can fight your opponent on a flag and win. While it's very tempting to go for lots of damage and mana to cast your abilities, it's mathematically far better to just buy as many health increasing items as possible with 1, or 2 at the max mana helms.

So, as long as you buy health items and never fight outnumbered, you'll never die against an easy AI. For your favor item, you click the circle in the bottom right hand corner of your screen and select Blood of the Fallen. 9 times out of 10 you want blood of the fallen, especially if you're a newer player.

Most every Demigod has two good ability lines and a good level 5 skill. Look at some of the builds in the strategy forum for your favorite demigod, they'll get you started. Playing against the computer will be incredibly easy if you play for three or four days; you'll get to the point where you need to play against other humans just to have a competetive game.

If you stick with this game, it's very fun despite its flaws.

Read the strategies, write out your build on a piece of paper so you can quickly reference it in game.

Here are a few tips:

1. Playing the single player game will not help you should you move to playing other people. If you wish to play other people (and this is where the game really becomes awesome) then join or host new player lobbies

2. Stacking Hitpoints (HP) is better than stacking armor

3. The first favor item you should probably save up for is Blood of the Fallen. Another viable inexpensive favor item is swift anklet. Ignore all of the others until you get those two. Other viable items include Blade of the Serpent, cloak of night, poisoned dagger and a couple others...

4. Pick a demi that interests and learn to play that one well before you learn a new one. I recommend one of the following:

Unclean Beast, Erebus, Oak or Occulus. Erebus, Oak and Occulus are generals which means that they do less burst damage than the assassins but they get the ability to have their own personal minions. These minions can be purchased at the shop. If you play one of those 3 buy the monk minion scroll as your first item (always) and then spawn the monks when you are at the shop so you mana regenerates because you are close to the crystal. The monks will heal you every 10 seconds or so.

Dont start playing with: Rook, Demon Assassin & regulus.

5. The best armor pieces in the game include: Banded armor, scale mail, scaled helm, plate visor, unbreakable boots, nimoth chest piece, vlemish faceguard, plenor battlecrown, hauberk of life, groffling warplate.

There are some other good ones as well but start with those.

A typical middle game build should be: Vlemish, Plenor, Unbreakable, nimoth & banded armor (or hauberk) along with bishops (bishops are the upgraded monks). Please note that you can wear more than one piece of the same armor type! Ie. you can wear two chestpieces or multiple crowns etc.

so guess what, I found a tutorial that made some sense, finally, and I think I might be able to play this game. Don't expect I'd wanna be reading tons of documentation in order to learn this game, it's just a game, for chrissakes if a game is easy to learn and intuitive enough, I'll play it if not, I'll let the 12 year olds who have more time and patience and passion for this kind of stuff do it, cuz they don't have anything better to do anyway. so, yeah, I'm not 12 y.o., but I do like to bitch like a 12 y.o., how about that?

so anyway, in the tutorial, the guy is of the same opinion as I am, that the game has unreasonable expectations from the player. there's no way you can read all there is to read, during gameplay, aaaand also play the game.

and for whoever thinks I should read tons of documentation in order to be able to play Demigod, again... I think that if you can't learn "on the fly", while playing, it's unreasonable to expect that a normal human being will waste time doing research in order to learn a game. a game is supposed to be fun, not "homework".

There are certain things you can pick up while playing the game, but trust me, it's much more painful for you and your teammates. You won't learn much by playing against the computer; you'll win no matter what you do.

Certain things aren't exactly common sense in this game, but if you do the math you'll find out what's a good idea and what's going to make you lose for certain. For example, you should buy the currency upgrade in the citadel as soon as possible. Over time you'll get back much more money than you put in.

Also, you don't purchase priests too early, or the other team will level up by killing them and get more gold. There are a lot of little things like this in Demigod, and the game is too fast paced to figure them all out unless someone tells you or you read it on the forums.

I'm not trying to be an ass, but I'm just telling you how it is. Their are so many posts because when a noob comes to the forum then thats a step in the right direction, and we enjoy helping them. Only if they show us they are willing to actually learn how to play and not bitch about every little thing in the game.

never had a problem like this...

but i think there is a kind of tutorial video on the homepage, right at the start... and the handbook (is it called hand-book in english? i think of the guide or manual or whatever you get when installing the game)

another point is that you can pause the game while in menue (F10?!) in single player AND versus AI: why in a hurry? take your time, just read the stuff and start a new game after reading (this is for citadel upgrades)! for the skills and items just look at
