I would personally prefer there to be (if gunpowder is modded in) a race whose Magical Prowess is so limited that all they can use are counterspells, if that, and they recieve a slight inherent resistence to magic.
Due to them being so bereft of any magical energies, not only can a Channeler of their race barely use any magic, but also they themselves have somewhat built a resistance to magic.
Their channeler was able to use the spell to bring life back into the earth only once, and from their they found natural methods of terraformation due to irrigation and transplanting as far more effective.
This Race would have a tremendous advantage at researching Civilization technologies, and would have exclusive ownership of several "Science" technologies, including Scientific Method, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.
They would, at later stages, have the best schools of logical thought.
However, Adventure techs would cost 200% the base rate, and Magical techs would cost 500% the base rate. In addition, all spells would cost twice the amount of mana.
To offset this, the Channeler would have 50% magical resistence (or be magically immune) and all soldiers would be 20% magically resistant.
There would be special "psuedo science" spells which cost significantly less mana, and are relatively cheap magical techs unlocked by certain science techs in the Civ Category.
These people would be SteamPunks trying to survive in a War of Magic ... trying to use their musket Brigades, Train-lines, Cannons ... and later their Steam Copters, Steam Tanks, IronClads, and Snipers .... and finally their Machine Guns, Submarines, and Cars (motorized Infantry) to fight off the enemy's elite units, magics, and grand champions.
All progeny of this Race's Channeler have basic Soldier stats, and fucntion more like a soldier, or perhaps a weak champion, than a true champion. Relations towards recruiting normal champions are sour/difficult because the magic-less society is a Stigma upon the World of elemental, they are an unwanted, hardly known blight, and their stigma has spread farther than even the knowledge that they actually exist. The "Magicless peoples" are a myth perpetuated are the boogey monster of somesort, and definitely not a race people wish to be associated with. For those that come in contact with the Logosians ... already are familiar with the stigma they seem to be born with, and hate them for it.
