New Patch Incompatible With Old Saves?

Well I finally got around to playing Sins again after the update and now the game crashes when I load my savegame (saved on Diplomacy 1.0). If I want to start a new game, it'll work fine, but the save won't load to save my life.

Is this a known issue/intended?

I should add that the only other thing I did was change my name in the game from "NewPlayer" to something else.

NOTE: THIS UPDATE WILL INVALIDATE YOUR EXISTING SAVE GAMES AND REPLAYS.

 

 

This has been the normal since the start of Entrechment beta. Its due to changes in the engine and other files.

I saw that listed for the previous update (pre-Diplomacy), but not the announcement thread Brad made last week.

Will that be true for EVERY update that this game recieves?

Yes. Its been a mainstay since Entrechment beta. Brad's didnt not have the warning. Though it was not the offical patch notes though. For future referance look for Yarlen post. He has done every offical patch notes since as far back as I can remember.
