Now, its worth noting that most people think the Vasari SB is the only one that can attack, because it is the only one that can move. This isn't really true.
Now, the Vasari Orkolus is able to use its own firepower to attack structures, and it can be upgraded with anti-structure weapons, making it powerful against enemies who rely on static interior defenses and only have fleets on the frontier. If you fire a shot from a Kostura at a lightly defended planet, then you can sen a Jarun to that planet (make sure that when it gets ready to phase, it is as far away from the starting planet as possible, and that the starting planet has some sort of phase stabilizer node, because this way, when it arrives, it is out of range of most mines and defense platforms.) Usually, by the time any SC arrive, the shields will be strong enough to stop them. When the SB is complete, don't attack until you have a few upgrades. Start with the SC upgrade, it gives you four squadrons. Use three of them for fighters, and the other one for a bomber squad. Then, do the first weapon upgrade. Then, the deflector shield. Then the defenses. When those are done, the SB is now fit to attack on its own. When you get close to defense platforms, activate the shield. It causes all attacks on the front of the SB to be completely ignored. This attack is somewhat expensive, with all the upgrades, and you need another migrator to colonize the planet if you capture it, but it allows you to have an attack center inside enemy territory, and it can disrupt crucial trade, culture, and research operations.
The TEC Argonev is a stationary SB, so it can't use its own weapons on static defenses, unless you deploy within range of them, which is a bad idea. The SB can also only attack enemy frontier worlds, unlike the Orkolus. To attack with this SB, you have to give it the factory upgrade, which allows it to build frigates and cruisers at 75% and 175% of normal rate, depending on upgrade level. How you use those ships and which ones to build is up to you, but the SB needs a little more protection due to the likely high-value nature of the target, so add some weapons, SC, and defenses. Don't spend a fortune on the SB, unless you put it in a good place that is NEAR the phase lanes to the enemy planets, so it can still function as a defense platform once you capture the planet. When attacking, be sure to save a slot for the big red button as well.
The Advent Transcenia is also a stationary SB, and it can also only attack frontier planets. It requires a different strategy that the Argonev and Orkolus to attack. While the TEC SB attacks with ships, and the Vasari SB attacks with itself, the ADvent SB attacks with SC. How? Well, to utilize it effectively, you must keep the SB alive until it has four SC upgrades, so you might want to start with a weapon and defense upgrade before you do those. A culture upgrade might be useful if the enemy doesn't have any culture on or near the planet, it will give you a shield mitigation bonus with the right techs. Meteor control is also useful, because you can bombard the enemy planet with the SB. Anyway, when you do have the SC upgrades, DOCK ALL SQUADS (unless the SB will be destroyed without them), and then go ten fighters and ten bombers. Once all squads are complete, launch them all and have them swarm over the enemy. Compared to the other two methods for the TEC and Vas SBs, this takes the longest, but once it is ready, it theoretically takes the shortest time to "reload".
Now, I DON'T recommend using these methods alone, but they are effective with a supporting fleet. However, if possible, use a superweapon or two to support the attack (the "or two" part is mainly for the Novalith) and remember that these are all kinda expensive when it comes to taking a planet, but if you are the type of person who likes to use their attacking fleet to hold the planet, this is useful. Its also worth noting that I REALLY REALLY wish that you could scuttle SB upgrades, but that can't be done, except for maybe with an undiscoverd mod. I also wish for a mod that granted a new tech for all factions that increases tha max number of upgrades a SB can have. Thank you for reading,
