Assassin type demigods
“In Demigod, there are two types of demigods, Assassins and Generals. Assassins are one-man armies who shift gameplay to a more action oriented feel, putting less emphasis on building and leading an army.” (http://demigod.wikia.com/wiki/Assassin)
General type demigods
“In Demigod there are two types of Demigods, Assassins and Generals. Generals are leaders who shift gameplay to a more RTS oriented feel, putting more emphasis on raising armies and leading them. Generals have abilities to create minions, either by units dying or by summoning them with abilities. In addition, generals can buy idols to summon units, idols are not one-time use so you can use the idols as many times as possible.” (http://demigod.wikia.com/wiki/General)
Note: Let me just state I normally wouldn’t use any form of Wikipedia for something like this, but this isn’t getting turned in to one of my college professors so screw it.
“The original designer of Demigod, John Comes, who’s now at Uber Entertainment, would be the first to tell you that the final release of Demigod is nothing like what he had in mind. It’s totally different.
That’s because of Mike Marr (and GPG) and I. So the toned down generals in Demigod? That’s my fault. I wanted to get rid of generals entirely but from a marketing standpoint we couldn’t.” (http://forums.demigodthegame.com/369417/page/2/, Frogboy)
Note: Thank you marketing stand point!
The problem
Ok on to the reason I made this post is because, and I know many people will disagree with me on this; but something needs to seriously be done about Assassins and generals. Sadly we might as well call both types Assassins and get it over with, because in the state both Assassins and general is; generals are nothing but assassins with the ability to buy auto heal, and two extra auto attacks (one range and one melee.) Let not forget that every general can literally play and win without even spending a single point in minions or idols (Not buying idols is not wise, but they can win that way.) Two perfect examples are Erebus and Oak; these are two demigods that can easily win games with or without minions and idols, but to add insult onto injury they can decimate just about any demigod or building if they go hybrid. I’m making this post because even if nothing happens I can said I tried to create a direct approach to this problem.
The Idea
It’s not rocket science what I am after, but could we have a tone down on general’s base power and strengthen their ability to build armies? Some people would want the general and Assassin ideas removed, and give every demigod the ability to buy idols. I am against this because I for one like the idea of Quality vs. Quantity, and people already complain how monks and health stacking work so well together; now give the health stacking UB the ability to buy an Auto heal. To top it off with a stackable spit 4 extra auto attacks all respawn at his whim. Better yet let give a tower spam Rook the Ability to summon Bishops when he wishes, and now let place him against a queen of thorn, reg, or TB. Even if they wield bishops they won’t be able to out damage the rooks healing capacity because, not only are they dealing with Rook; but towers, siege/berserk, and creep waves to boot.
You may say that is already happening now and we are doing fine, but as a QoT player I don’t send my priest idols nowhere without them being requested, and I know I am in a position where I won’t need them. Because unless I am in a frantic to survive, I will quickly hit the N key to try and escape and bring won’t minions are left alive with me. To me if I die than they all are going to die also, so whoever the priest are on will automatically lose them, and leaving them to try and guard a spot or attack a demigod majority of the time is a suicide for them; and is not logical mana wise on my part.
Back to the matter at hand we really need to see some change done to general and assassins playing style, because why the mechanics may differ with each demigod; the whole playing style feels and look generic and the ame. But it is all cleverly coated with beautiful frosting of the way minions are summoned and items that are only available to one group.
Off topic, can we get something more for joining dark and light; like different weapon upgrade or minions for each side. Like where light would get angels that fly; dark would get demons they have a small flaming aoe aura. Light would get giants, and dark, would get Titans.
