Unique Situation for Updating game

Hi, I am currently in a unique situation for updating Sins. I just bought the game of the year edition from a store. I dont have internet at home. I have to use free wireless hot spots to check the net. Now I looked around ad I dont see a place to dowload the patches by them selves. Since I cant use impulse on my desktop I cant update through there. I was wondering if I installed the game onto my laptop from the disc then updated through Impulse, would I be able to copy the files from my laptop to my desktop?? And if so what files??

To update the game, you need to download and install a benign program called Impulse which is like Steam and is the form of DRM used for this game. (You can't patch it up without a CD-key, which is much better than having CDkilla, Starforce, or Securom or even having to insert the CD every time you want to play.) You don't even have to load or run Impulse in order to play the game; you can set it so that it doesn't load at startup. I think you can find it here:

That's not what he asked at all and having to install a program to update is, imo, a lot worse than SecuROM which is pretty much unnoticeable unless you start digging in the registry.

OP, you might be able to copy the files over. There may be an activation issue, though, I'm not sure quite how that works - if you run into that sort of issue, you could probably pop in one of those free hours dial-up CDs, then start impulse, and reactivate it over the web without having to download the game again.

OK I will try copying the whole thing and see if it works. I dont have a landland or a modem in my desktop for that matter, so dial up is out. Thanks though for the suggestion Carbon.

DirtySanchez I have no problem with impulse its just that I bought the game at a physical retail store and would like an option to just download the patches individually. As I said I am going to update through impulse on my laptop here then copy it over at home to my desktop.

Why not have an FTP that only registered people can access to download patches?? Egosoft has done this with their products where you have to register to download the patches.

Any way will post my results later.

Because FTP can't sell you software. If that wasn't the motivation I'm sure we'd still have regular standalone patches like the early days of Sins.

1. Install the game on the desktop and the laptop (it doesn't matter if the laptop can run it).

2. Install Impulse on the laptop. Register an Impulse account and associate your Sins key with that account.

3. Update Sins to the latest version using Impulse on the laptop.

4. Archive the game by right clicking on the game under the My Games tab in Impulse. Save the archive to some portable medium.

5. Install Impulse on the desktop and restore the archive on the desktop.
