Lack of real stats on players

The dreaded "quit game"

It's probably been brought up, but how about more stats like disconnects instead of win-loss ratio? And clearly quiting the game should count as a disconnect and have some affect on their stats. Seeing people with 200 wins and 0 losses is a bit crap considering they can't just quit to never take a lose.

Unfortunately stats are meaningless on ICO. People quit most times because it lets the AI play in your stead rather than them doing nothing. Wins can be just as meaningless because they can be easily faked. I wish that multiplayer were better supported with rated games and such but no such luck.

The only stat that I pay attention to is, Number of Games played-Number of Wins.

However, even that stat can be misleading because the wins could have been racked up against AI. What we need are separate stats for Wins against AI (comp stomps) and Wins against human opponents (regular wins).

At a certain point, you'll have to start making a reputation for yourself, so other players will be able to vouch for you.

I dunno about the win to games played ratio. My main profile only has probably 50 games from within the past 6 months, but has 400 games on it. I took my 6 month hiatus before the "if the host leaves the game crashes" flaw was fixed.

Also, sometimes the record is still misleading if it's got a good win/games played ratio. There's a decent number of folks with around 150 games or so on the profile but almost all games are wins because the profile is a smurf of the real person, or at least the original person.

Reputaiton is probably the most valuable thing you can make for yourself. The community is still small enough (we'll see if diplomacy will change this) that your original tag is enough for people to know your skill set.

Unfortunately stats are meaningless on ICO.

Aren't the Hamachi players all pirates? Do any of the Hamachi networks even have the most recent patches?

Starts should give us more information.

But whats most important, stats should be attached to account, not to character.

It would be great to get wins, loss, quits disconects.

Peeps would stop complaining about smurs and we would not see noobs with 100 wins 0 loss and average skill level.

But untill it change ill smurf u all

Well, I'm not a pirate, and I use the most recent patches. And the same can be said for the guys who play on my server. I don't know about the other servers that are out there though.

Why don't erase all stats? Stats can be meaningless. You can be an excellent player yet your first ten games online were against an even better player so you end up with 10 losses and people thinking you are a bad player. I think players should have only one online name per account. If it can be changed, show the old one for a month or so, so the new name sticks in the community.

Respect as a player should be earned by helping people, playing in a friendly way, and making the community know you, and not by numbers.

Stats come into play with enough games played. More games you have more chance there is that stats show your true skills. Including MD.

As for me I use all that is not win as loose minus 10% for disconnect and MD.

It would be nice if we were to be allowed to have only 1-4 names under 1 account and while checking stats we would see stats for all those names and one for line where they are combined.

If we play enough games we tend to bump into same people again and again ant those people see your skills in game and therefore you get respect from them or not if you are "noob"

Exactly, get respect by playing enough games. At first it will be tough, as nobody knows you. But as time passes, everybody will get to know your name and know how you play without having to rely on statistics.

I thought about something like "Honor Points". When you finish a game, you can say which players behave correctly and award them an Honor Point. This way players can forge a reputation by playing nicely. I don't see a nice player turning into an ass for no reason, so a player with a lot of HP will always be a good person to play with. Even if they are not that good, they will not quit or rant about everything or insult other players.

Playing a game online is supposed to be fun, and I don't like to see it as a competition. Loosing can be fun if you learn something that makes you better, and is easier to lose if nobody keeps track of it.

The win/lose ratio is not an accurate measurement of a player's skill for several reasons like FFA's and games with AI's. I'm sure the multiplayer game would be more relaxed and fun without those unimportant statistics. Teams would be much easier to arrange if people weren't so afraid of losing. The game can be fun even against a horribly stacked team but no one wants a loss on their record.

Maybe what they should do is have two stats: Number of Games played on CD-Key (no tracking of wins or losses) that people can see on every player name and then another stat line for each player name that shows the games played, wins and losses, under that name. So, you could have a player name with 0 games played, 0 wins, 0 losses but also showing 800 total games played.

A "total games played on all player names" stat would be something of an improvement in exposing obvious smurfs. But it would not make the win/loss ratio any more meaningful. All the win/loss stat really does is make people go to lengths to make sure they don't end up in the losing team and even quitting before the game even starts. I'm sure the multiplayer games would be more straightforward and fun without the win/loss stats.

A ladder/tournament of some kind would be much better than a vague win/loss ratio for competitive players who want impressive records and bragging rights.

What I'm against is displaying meaningless stats that complicate match arrangements and promote smurfing.
