I'd like to point out that that is not an acceptable fix by any means.  Iron Clad has a responsibility to make sure that their game runs in every operating system listed on the game box.  If they want to market their game to Windows x64 users, then it has to work.  I also sent in to Stardock support about this issue and got the same old work around that they've given most everybody else.  It's been more than 6 months since I have had this problem and there is still no patch for it.  They have since removed the file verification for the game and all other options just haven't worked.  Please for CRYING OUT LOUD fix your broken code.

I am using an i7 930 oc to 4.03ghz, 12gb ddr3 2ghz, ati5850 and at present the catalyst 10.11, but am planing to update the catalyst to 10.12which has just come out at the amd website, on win7 64bit ultimate.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail.

It just won't run; No error msg but it won't run. I can see a cursor but no music or anything else, except the "black scrfeen of death". When I go to Task manager to clear things out, I see this minidump listed, which may be significant in the light of some of the previous threads.

I am both disappointed and surprised. Two previous Stardock Gal Civ games I have installed and played with no problems and the very box of Sins of a Solar Empire proclaims it "Games for Windows" and yet it cannot, apparently, handle Windows 7. Curiously enough, it is supposed to be according to Windows compatible with Windows 7 64 bit but it ain't! Not on may machine.

Pity, I badly wanted to try out the Star Trek mod. Still, I shall keep a weather eye out on forum until there is patch advertised which makes it play under Windows 7 - for I can see I am not the only one with problems.

I bought this game which had this big label on the box saying "Games for Windows." I have way over the specs, having invested in a spanking new Dell Studio XPS, I have Windows 7 but Sins of a Solar Empire won't play!!!

cmcastl, it is the network play code in sins that will be the issue, and I have been running sins over the last almost three years with sins being allowed through the firewalls in use, AND NO infections/spyware or other nasties that can not be traced back to a WEB BROWSER have entered ANY of my computers, so I think that sins is fairly well behaved and unlikely to allow an undesirable program into the computer, regarding the serial the ONLY point that I have entered the serial IS in impulse and the older stardock central, so that I can get updates.

regarding the older games like gal civ accessing web sites would use a already installed web browser that has been given permission already, BUT sins meerly checks a file in a website to check if there is an update, and ALSO in a NON web way to check if there is a network of computers for playing in a network(this is by observation), so giving the sins/entrenchment/diplomacy exe's permission to access AND host games in the firewall is not a significant risk.

cmcastl, the precise instructions depend upon the particular firewall in use.

could you please let me know which firewall software you are using,

but in general you open the firewall user interface, and search through it for the list of porgrams that have attempted to access the network/internet, then look through the list to find the program(s) you want to access the network/internet and tell the firewall to allow them out

Most likely that is the patch version they used when they tested it.

Compatible yes. Be able to use in the best manner no.
