Though not ground breaking in any aspect, this game does bring back the fond memory of Defense of the Ancients - Via Warcraft III on Battle.net.
The basic gameplay and mechanics are exactly like those of Defense of the Ancients, pick a Demigod (Hero Character) kill wave after wave of mindless NPC armies, try to kill other Demigods and not die yourself. Buy upgrades, weapons, armor, items, to make yourself all but invincible. Then simply dominate. Of course there are some new styles in which to play, but it doesn't take away from the feel of this game being Defense of the Ancients with new shinnies being added to try and distract you from that fact.
Despite all this I can't help but find myself sitting and playing, waiting and cursing for hours on end as I re-live an old addiction. Stardock has done an amazing Job of building up from what was already a satisfying game and improving it. There are a few issues with balancing, Torch Bearer for instance is an amazingly powerful Demigod, that is if you go Fire. With a few simple upgrades from the shop, and one 10,000 gold Artifact you can make him all but indestructible. And for those of you who don't think Circle of Fire and Fire Nova are worth it, think again. My 19 - 0 Killing streak during many seperate games, would like to tell you otherwise. Those two abilites, coupled with the Item Use from the Artifact cause around 3,000 damage in seconds. Leaving the opposing Demigod ready for that almighty Fireball. Works AMAZINGLY WELL against all Melee Based Demigods who have to move in close. And even against Ranged if you move in close against them. Not to mention Leveling fast is made easy with Circle of Fire.
All in all I'm impressed, but at the same time dissapointed in the game. I was expecting more. But I can't say I'm displeased with what I have. All in all, I'd give this game a...
