How are you building the refineries with no tactical slots?

A refinery affects the gravwell it is in and all neighboring gravwells 1 phase jump away.  Therefore a neutral extractor can support up to 4 refineries in neighboring gravwells.

So what i do understand (i didnt know that) is that a Neutral extracotr 2 phases jumps away from the nearest Refinery wont get any bonus quota?

I really do not understand how the Advent Refinery system works. I was messing around with it yesterday. So i bought the upgrade to the trade port...built an extra one on my planet which had 2 crystal and one metal extractor and then converted the extra port to the refinery setting. Then I moused over the extractors expecting to see one of the quota's taken up. However I didn't see one...but I did see a line saying something about percent of usage or something. So can someone explain how the Advent system works...cause when i mouse over the crystal and metal resource window it doen't show me the extra gain per planet as it does with TEC....does that mean im doing something wrong?

The short answer is the Advent refinery system works.. badly.  The longer answer...

Unlike TEC and Vasari, the refinery oriented Advent trade ports are only affected by extractors in their system, not adjacent ones.

The advent can use their trade ports for trade or ore/crystal, but not both.

If you assume 1 ore/crystal = 5 credits, you should never use it till you've got it researched to 17%, then only on planets with 4 extractors.  Once you research it to 25%, its worthwhile on planets with 3 extractors.  This assumes 100% allegience at the planet.  If your allegiance is lower... just don't use it!   If your allegiance is higher, and you're at 25%, you can go with it economically at 2 extractor planets.

If you're below these thresholds, its better to use the trade port to generate credits rather than resources.

The TEC and Vasari refineries are much more efficient, since they pull in from adoining planet extractors.  The breakeven is 3.33 extractors.  Hence the viable strategy of just putting one refinery in each gravwell works with little thought, or you can micro your placement with great precision to nudge your return up a little.

Typically it's not worth paying for the research costs of Advent resource focus.  If you have a bunch of 4-extractor planets near your homeworld, it might be worthwhile, but usually the returns are so marginal over the basic trade port that it won't pay for the upgrade cost.
