About Starbases...

I bought Entrenchment earlier this week, and have been playing it EXTENSIVELY! (Much love to everyone who made this game possible!)

I was wondering though, is there a way to raise the cap for starbases around planets/stars? From what I've seen, the limit for just about all planets is just one and stars have four, but I was hoping for maybe four on a planet/eight on a star. Has anyone seen a mod that can do this, or is there a simple coding tweak I could make to raise the cap? (Single Player only obviously) I don't know too much about the way this game's engine works yet, but I figure it would be something in the planet entities files... and I looked, but couldn't really find what to change/add/delete... When I downloaded entrenchment, I was hoping for a nifty game option format for starbase caps, kind of like the fleet sizes one under the new game/load game options, but to no avail... I want to get some epic battles going with starbases to REALLY see them in action. If anyone could help me realize this glorious dream, I would be eternally grateful!

It's actually really easy. Just download the forge tools (downloads link up top) and open each planet entity file (PlanetVolcanic, PlanetIce, PlanetDesert, etc etc) and towards the top there's a line that says how many starbases they allow.

I don't remember what it reads exactly, but it's pretty obvious. Something like maxNumStarbaseCount?

Now that I'm home and have the files, I can be more specific:

Inside the forge tools archive is a Reference Data folder that has all the GameInfo files in text that you can edit in notepad. Each planet entity has this line that you can edit:

maxStarBaseCountPerPlayer 1

It's at the bottom of the file. You should also read the pdf in the Documentation folder that goes over how to set up the mod for Entrenchment, it's a bit different than vanilla because of the Manifest stacking system.

So can I just edit the line "maxStarBaseCountPerPlayer 1" to "maxStarBaseCountPerPlayer 4" in notepad, then save and close? And it will work in-game then? Because I can't seem to get the Forgetools to work... It keeps saying there are missing .dll files, 3 of which I found, but apparently "binkw32.dll" is impossible to find. (A legit one anyway...) I downloaded it from 5 different sources and none of them work. (including the original developer's version) It's getting frustrating.

Don't worry about any of that stuff. You don't need it. The only thing you need are the entities in GameInfo, and to modify the entity.manifest file so it knows what files you changed. It should all be in the pdf doc how to do that.

Thanks for the info. I got it working, and it's pretty cool. Unfair comps can't even take my planets, even if I don't have a fleet in the grav well! It does make the game a little too easy once you get defenses up, but taking out starbases on opponents planets makes for some AMAZING battles! I already played 2 games with it, and the closeup visuals were EPIC! So thanks for the help, man. It made my day!
