Pre-order Question

automatic beta access or limited beta access

So I am thinking of pre-ordering the game and I was wondering if pre-order customers get automatic beta access, or if it is a limited beta access where you need to wait for an email after pre-ordering. Normally I wouldn't care too much, but I found demigod available for pre-order from amazon for $40, and on impulse it comes out to $60 with shipping for the retail version and $45 for the download only version.

Yes, if you preorder directly now you will still get immediate access to the beta. As it's been open for the entire holiday break though it will probably go back to queueing up for the next beta or final soon.

For clarity (you seem to know already, but for any others reading), preordering from Amazon or a store will not get you beta.

yea, I'm just trying to decide if it is worth paying an additional 50% of what I pre-ordered it for just to play a beta, and seeing how the entrenchment beta has been going i'm a little hesitant.

Yes, there is a backup option. You can use this to backup or move files from a fast connection computer to a slower connection computer. It appears that the slower connection computer does need net access though to allow impulse to validate that you are a legal owner of the backup. I can't personally confrim this, but am reasonably sure about this point.

Yes it can transfer to the slow or offline computer so long as your account is logged into the machine. That means even the offline machine has to be online for at least the period of time it takes to install Impulse. The reason behind that is because the archive of your purchase requires activation still to prevent it being stolen or used by another.

So I took the leap and pre-ordered it with the retail box, sure it ended up costing $20 more than if I stuck with the amazon pre-order, but I view it was worth it to be able to play the game before it comes out in who knows how long. So far I've found I really like Oak, I'm a bit suprised about how fast the AI levels up compared to me, but then again they tend to travel in groups of rooks

Also realize if you order the box version from stardock directly, you are not getting the standard edition, but rather the collector's edition. The collector's edition come with a Rook Minitaire Figurine and a MyColors Demigod Windows Theme.

A group of Rooks is called a Parliament, and the reason for this according to Wikipedia (by way of Gaiman):
