512 Physical Memory Required

Hi...

I bought this game knowing full well that it requires 512RAM, while my computer (for some weird reason) came with 448mb of RAM.  I wasn't concerned with this, concidering I bought World of Warcraft which had the same thing... it just ran a tiny bit slower considering (even though it ran almost perfectly fine).  So, I bought this figuring it might be a little slow, but since its not too low above the "requirement", I'd be okay.

Now, when I go to install it, it lets me know that "Setup Cannot Continue" because I don't meet the requirement.  Is there anything I can do about this?  Anything to make it let me try running it, even if the computer is a little slow and congested?  World of Warcraft automatically did, so I assumed (which I guess you shouldn't do) this would do... and it wont.  I don't want to have to get more RAM just to play this.

Also, I just tried installing it on my gfs computer, which HAS 512, and it gave the same message.

If your video card (or yoru girlfriends) is using part of your PC memory as video you won't be able to run it.

I guess in this case the folks at Stardock would rather you don't have a negative play option.

Well my friend just told me he had an extra gig of ram he isn't using that I could put in my computer, if I do this, it is likely it'll work, correct?

I have the same problem.  It says it requires 512.  I ran the dx diagnostic test and it came up with 502 memory.  I know I have more than that. What gives?

 

How can I increase my memory?  I have already deleted 3G worth of worthless files in my hard drive and it still says "502" in the dxdiag results.

 

If I don't connect to the net, the game runs smoothly in the menus but I can't play, as it needs the Impulse log in.

If I do, however, the sound gets bouncy and repetitive and the game hangs.

hard drive space (what you freed up) and memory are very different things.  You shoudl jsut install more RAM.  It's pretty inexpensive these days and all your apps will run better.

If you are using the demo, yes.  It's what the devs want.  Seems like a decent trade.

The retail disc installer of the game does have a check in there to make sure you at least meet the minimum requirement for RAM.  It's always a good idea to put in as much RAM as your motherboard will allow.  Start a different thread asking for help if you are unsure how to figure out how much RAM your computer will hold and what kind you'd need.

512MB is a pretty low requirement for RAM.  I think Vista requires 1GB at the least.

Anyways, if the only requirement you do not meet is the RAM requirement, you should still be able to play the game, though the game will run slowly.  As I said, the retail disc installer has a check for the RAM requirement, but it is possible to register your game with Impulse and use that to download and install the game.

In case you don't already know, Impulse is our free digital distribution application.  You use it to download and update games.  You can get Impulse from the Impulse website (http://www.impulsedriven.com/about.aspx).
