the best advice anyone will give you? "Strategies" are not what you need.

Manhunter123-I'm still kind of new... I've beaten one game LOL. I played on easy and I used to think I needed a huge powerful army to defeat them. So I got my 42 Cobalt Light Frigates and my level 3 Kol Battleship or some other capital ship and started attacking EVERY SINGLE PLANET except the pirate base. Most of the enemy ships were either destroyed or fled. So then I got my colony ship and started colonizing a bunch of planets

I was doing all the research in the advanced fleet thing so near the end of the game I had one frigate factory building OVER 200 COBALT LIGHT FRIGATES. By the time I captured every enemy planet except one, my capital ship's level was maxed out (level nine I think). And I was attacking the last planet. The second my colonizer was done colonizing it, I won the game! And don't expect the enemy to attack you too often on easy. Do ALL the research in Fleet Management or something like that. Then, you can have about 16 capital ships (TEC) I think. Do all the research in fleet supplies or something (it's the research for non-capital ships). Build a bunch of capital ships and cobalt light frigates, and then peacefully stroll through the galaxy conquering the universe! Have fun! LOL.

Just a friendly word of advice to newbies... If you end up having a fleet of 42 Cobalts...you're doing something wrong. If you end up having a fleet of 200 Cobalts you're doing something very wrong.

If you play a team game in online multiplayer and your teammates see you building a "mighty" Cobalt fleet, they'll demand that you stop building Cobalts and start building LRMs.

This is the best newbs strategy guide I have seen!

For normal strategy tips, I recommend reading the stickies here in the strategy forum. Then look through a few pages of postings here. There are many intersting threads discussing races, strategies and ships. Everything you could want has already been discussed.

check my thread "No more strategies for TEC". it outlines 3 golden rules to live by for sins, rules that will no crap make you a better player if you're an expert already or just a new guy.

As far as noobs giving noobs advice, that seems like going to prison and asking the inmates about tips to stay out of trouble and be a good citizen.

Well, I have absolutely NO experience with the TEC, but I have found that the Vasari do quite well by first maxing out the resource collection tech, then EVERYTHING in the "Oppression" branch, then everything except returning armada in "phase mastery", followed by all the technologies in the "nanotechnology" branch except salvage and nano-weapons jammer thingy. Then get the antimatter interference, charged missiles, inertial field, and capital ship level-up upgrades in prototypes, then everything in the other two warfare branches. Then, only then, get the returning armada upgrade, but turn off the autocast for your phase stabilizers. Research everything in the fleet research. Build up a fleet of six kortuls, six vulkorasi (not a clue how to make that plural but that's my best guess) and four jarrasuls. Turn on the autocast at your phase stabilizers and in ten minutes or so you will have an unstoppable fleet.

P.S. This ONLY works on the Huge random map; anywhere else, the enemy will find and beat the heck out of you before you're ready.

I wouldn't quite catagorize that last post as "tips for getting better" personally. The one research you advised NOT getting is probably the only viable part of that post.

I'm going to just make a big post about good starts with each civ right now, instead of writing out a whole one for vas and letting it get lost in the sauce. Stay tuned

I'm pretty new to the game also, but i find it best if you try to capture the less guarded neutral planets first, then build up an army. I also like to be an ally with just one person, because with multiple allies they might make you attack other allies, making them all hate you.
Try to get fighters and bombers. I personally think the bombers are way overpowered. 6 squads can take out pretty much anything except a capital rather quickly. I once had 70 of the carrier cruiser ships, and the bombers all worked together and killed almost everything within a second.
Try to get the civilian infrastructure thing on your planets ASAP so othey don't drain income.
