Firefox 3 Release & Stardock Site Compatibility
Jul 30, 2008 12:59

Firefox 3.0 goes final and is scheduled for release on Tuesday, June 17th.

There are currently known incompatibilities between Firefox 3 and many of our sites and forums. For the most part, the sites function properly, but have formatting issues. A specific example are the login & password fields to log into these forums. In Firefox 3, instead of both being on the same line, they are stacked vertically.

We will be addressing these visual issues in time. Please do NOT post threads on the forums pointing out Firefox 3 site issues. They will be deleted. We are aware of the problems and will work as quickly as we can to resolve them.

Until posted otherwise, the only version of Firefox our sites support at the moment is Firefox 2.

Need help with the ingame map designer

I've tried using google and and various websites and couldn't get a clear answer. I also tried searching this forum, but to no avail, so sorry if this question has been asked a thousand times before.

All I need are basically clear descriptions of what "Planet Groups" and "Planet Group Contents" are, and how the differ. That, and which is best to use if I want to make a large map.

Example:
You want to make a map that makes sense (volcanic close to sun or close to gas giant, and ice far out)
so...you want 3 volc, 4ice, 2 des, and 5 ast.
Make one planet group. add in volc. 3 of them. Then make the min/max closest to the star. (this means the planets will spawn close to the star.
Make another group. Asterid. 5. Make their min/max closest to the star and farthest away from the star. (theyl spawn anywhere in that stars grav feild.
make another group. ice. 4. min/max farthest away. (theyl spawn on the uotskirts)
another planet group. desert. 2. min/max somwhere in the middle (theyl spawn inbetween the star and the edge..
.....
hope this clears things up.
planet groups simply allow you to control where planets spawn and allows you to make them spwan in different places

i may have misunderstood you question...a planet group is a 'group' of planets. planet group contents are what is in the planet group

making a large map....id recemend using multiple groups with differing distances from the star. doesnt matter obviuosly. or you could make just one planet group group that spawns anywhere. (min/max is min/maxed out) if you make just one group that is close to the star then you starting terran and ast will be far away from the rest as your startin planets always spawn at the edg of the system

So essentially I won't need to use Planet Group Contents if I use Planet Groups, correct?
May 15, 2008 23:40:57
No. A planet group is just that; a group. It has to have contents or else it's useless to have.

Well here's the thing. To see what things would like like, I made a map with several planet groups with no planet group contents, and it looked like a normal map. Then I made a map with just one planet group and a bunch of planet group contents, and it looked the same. Can someone point out the intricate differences?

dude......it cant be made anymore clear. planet group is a GROUP OF PLANETS, and other stuff. so you need to put stuff in it or it wont exist.............

also....by default...when u create a planet group it will have 4-6 random planets in it

It's hard to make much rhyme or reason of it. When I was still playing single-player only I'd gotten a better grasp of it. I suggest just designing your own maps with Galaxy Forge. Unfortunately, Galaxy Forge-made maps won't auto-download to people for online multiplayer play (everyone has to install the maps separately).
