Start menu "glow" simply isn't working

By Posted April 29, 2008 00:29:22
Okay, so I want to create a start button that "pops up" just like in other skins - but somehow, my own custom skin isn't doing it. It appears fine in the previews, but when I finally apply it to my system it doesn't work and my button is just cut off every time. It appears the "glow" just isn't getting applied, even though "always show start button glow" is on, and the Top and Bottom settings are correct. Any ideas?

Perhaps a picture will help?

Tested in XP on a virtual machine, and it seems to work, with some bugs. Dunno what's up, or why XP actually works better than Vista, even though Vista is the first OS to really have a button that extends beyond the Start menu.

Humm - made some modifications to the image, and the problem disappeared - quite possibly could've been a corrupted TGA file?

click Edit start menu and taskbar to get that section. Click Edit Horizontal Taskbar to get the dialog up. Click "Glow" under start button, Select Extra Settings, and make sure "always display start button glow" is enabled. If it's not, then enable it. This will allow you to see it no matter what.

Cobra,
Looking in your screenshot, I noticed the Vista start menu arrow button (the one on right side of the lock button) have painting issues, to fix that go to that bit section and check the item "This image has premultiplied alpha".

I'll keep that in mind for future reference, although that is now an old screen shot and has since been fixed.
