Personally i prefer focus firing on the cap ships first. Once the shield is gone the mitigation is gone and the enemy ship takes full amount of damage


Ive fought odds 2 to 1 against me at one time and won. It really depends on how you use what you have at your disposal. It could also mean that the enemy had better technology then you, so not much you can do but micro the fleet. Keep an eye on the empire tree and watch the health of all your ships. If it looks like your lossing health way too fast compared to your enemy, it would be better to retreat.
When you retreat and he is attacking a planet of yours, be sure to have some gun platforms as he moves after your retreating ships the gun platforms will still be firing on his ships.
So either he will chase your ships and wont be focus firing on the platforms and they will do lots of damage to his ships, while he does minimal damage to them.
Or he could focus fire on the platforms and your fleet can retreat safely and resupply at the near by planet.

Incorrect. Damage mitigation remains in effect regardless of shield status. Thus, all races benefit from it roughly equally and phase missiles are pretty much universally useful, since they ignore mitigation when they phase.

Lol i lost that game mainly because my capital ship tried to chase his critical capital ship and ended up losing mine instead Then yeah downhill battle from there since it was really early on.

Actually I had a couple of frigate class ships chasing his cap ship. I should have just left my cap ship behind but thought could lazer.... He only had a few hundred health when he warped u see while mine had a few thousand... lol

I'd guess that the shield mitigation changing still doesn't make up for the fact that if you were to hit all the ships at once instead of focussing, they would retain their full attacking potential against you until the very end. Of course, if you kill them one at a time, the enemy loses firepower with each ship he loses. It's a good question though.

Regarding letting AI fight for you, I've always found that they end up focusing fire anyway, so the only question is who do you want to focus on?

I think that actual battles in this game are much less dynamic than a game like warcraft 3, since everything moves so slow. Also, I have a feeling the units are more similar between races in this game than in other RTS games. Notice all the threads here related to general LRM ships, etc., which are basically all the same. Aside from picking when to retreat or follow a retreating enemy cap ship, there is very little micromanagement strategy in the fights here, I think.
