Hi all,
A few things first- 1. I love Sins so this isn't a complaint and 2. This may have already been gone over, but this is just my two cents.
Okay, I'm enjoying Sins thoroughly.
I have only really mastered the TEC, and only very lightly touched on Advent.
I'll forgo the usual 'I love this and this about the game, but...' and get to the point. If I'm playing TEC, which focuses on economy, why do i have to win a game through warfare? Yes, I realise it is a combat-focused game, but i just wish there were more strategies open to me.
For example, i'm currently engaged in a huge multi-galaxy singe player game, with two AI in a neighbouring galaxy having allied, they are funneling their forces through the wormhole and attacking my outlying colonies like a plague of ants at a picnic. I had an asteroid, Sethos, that was the choke point near the wormhole, my first line of defence. Splintering off from that was a a small cluster of planets belonging to another enemy.
The baddies from the other galaxy, the Blues, attacked Sethos and all was lost. I pulled my fleet out and jumped to the small cluster of planets, destroyed a colony and set up shop. Now, while this was happening, Sethos was colonised by the Blue. So what did I do? Finished researching Novalith cannon and fired a slug at Sethos. Ka-boom. Destroyed their one beach front in my galaxy.
Now, I have a fleet in the other galaxy, an Akkdan cap ship, trying to establish a foothold there so i can build another cannon and hopefully cause enough commotion so the Blues back off.
I love this aspect, that allows you to play hte game with cunning and desperation when needed, rather than just rush all the time.
but, these things can rarely be done online. People rush, which is the nature of RTS I know. But it would be nice if Sins had a touch of Civ, in allowing you other ways to win the game. Research something, i.e. 'Secrets of the Universe' and you win, of course it would take a long time. Or, what about research specific to the enemies, 'Vasari Past' would allow a win against the Vasari player.
And what about Wonders like in Civ - imagine two TEC factions racing to construct the universe's first and only Strategic Blackhole - a very-long-charged weapon that deploys a blackhole in a system, tearing apart fleets? Or Phase Catapults, allowing instant one way travel to the other side of the galaxy?
So yeah, what do you think? What kind of cool Wonders would you imagine if Sins had them?
What cool strategies have you employed?
Now, I'm back to dropping nuclear warheads on enemy colonies.
