When you place multiple factories at a single planet then all the ships come out of just one of the factories, but they are built extremely fast....and I mean really fast!

This is one of those little things that really makes Sins a special game. So many other games would have just given each one it's own build que, I love that they take so many announces and let the game handle the specifics and let the players have fun.

Kudos to the devs.

Quite frankly I wished they had infinite queue.

The game does not reduce build time. Every factory still produces one ship at a time and at normal speed. It's just that several ships can be produced at once when there are several factories.

No need for an exciting post, but you're right. Scouts are important. Especially on random maps.

Ok, now I'm baffled, and can't actually run the game now to see who's right. Even though there's only one build queue, does each factory at a planet actually make a ship, or does only one do it (while the others sit there and look pretty)?

I've only played on easy thus far, so have never felt the strong need to build more than one per planet.

OMG.. IDIOTS!!!! You believe everything you read? Go turn the game on, build multiple factories, start the build que selecting the planet and zoom into the factories.. see what happens. Try other tests, like que only 1 ship and see if it builds faster. It'll be painfully obvious where the idiocy lies in this thread. I don't need to even say what happens because it'll be right in front of you.

Aside from that point, yes OBVIOUSLY there are great benefits to building multiple factories. I usually end up designating some of my desert planets as massive ship yards, And depending on the situation, will have up between 3-7 frig factories on each ship yard planet, and the remaining cap ship factories if need be.

It's really simple guys. If you have say four factories, and build 4 frigates of the same type, then each factory will prepare one frigate at the same time. All 4 frigates will pop out after the build time for one has elapsed. One frigate will come out of each factory. If you build 8 frigates, then you will have 4 pop out after the build time for one, and four more will pop out again after the build time of the second "one", ie: 8 ships in the time of two, due to four simultaneous productions.

If you build four different frigates, one frigate will still begin production per factory at the same time, and will arrive completed after it's standard production time (as per ship). The kicker is, they all started production within a couple seconds depending on how fast you clicked the queue, and they are all running their countdowns simultaneously. That's all there is to it.

The build times are static, unless you have abilities or research. What changes is: how many vessels can be under simultaneous production. The answer is: one per factory.
