To one of my opponents. I hope this is helpful.
Near the end of 2v2 multiplayer game late on 3/15, someone asked a question about how far I had researched. I tried to answer but I didn't feel I gave good information.
After the other team left, my teammate and I were looking at the graphs and I stumbled across something that was certainly key to the battle.
One of our opponents had lost mucho mucho dinero by not updating thier planets properly. It took me a few games to realize just how important that is. I hope no one is offended by me giving step by step instructions, but it took me several tries to get my wife to understand what I meant so I will be as clear as I can.
One of the most important things you can do is to upgrade your planet's Population Infrastructure. This is done by
- Select the planet
- Press the Planet Development button. This is the green button in the Action Grid (10 buttons in the extreme lower right hand corner of the screen) This button will be the upper left button in the 10 button grid.
- Press the Population Infrastructure button. This button will also be the upper left button in the 10 button grid.
- Do not think you are done until there is a small white triangle in the lower left area of this button. Until then, there are still more upgrades available. You don't have to do them immediatley, but you want to keep this upgrade type busy until the maximum level is reached.
The reason this is so important is that when you first colonize a planet, it actually costs you Credits to have it. This will not change until you have upgraded it. If you don't believe me, hover your mouse over your Credit total in the upper right portion of the screen and you will get an Information Card that shows you how many Credits are being earned (or lost) by each planet. When you first colonize a planet, this will be red (indicating a loss). Only after upgrading will it turn to green (indicating a gain).
Occasionally, I take the time to look at all of my planets to be sure I haven't forgotten to max out these upgrades.
I think in the game in question, this was one of the deciding factors. One of our opponents was not aggressive enough in these upgrades and missed out on 19,000 Credits in an hour long game.
Good luck, and I hope to play against you again!
