I'm not sure if it's because they have all the coolest abilities or if it's something else but the Vasari seem to have quite a few bugs with their abilities. I noticed three in a game yesterday and thought I'd might as well point them out here...
Whatever the ship the Vasari have for planet bombardment is called it's second ability has a small bug in that the range it can be activated from the planet is just slightly greater than it's default fire range. In other words if left to its own devices the ship will spawn platforms too far from the planet (by a hair, after 2 are spawned the third is close enough to start firing) for them to do anything but sit there. If you research the Bombardment range tech the problem goes away (even at just level 1) but until then you're forced to micro that ability or have it be wasted.
The Vasari Missile barrage ability on two of their frigates doesn't automatically deactivate. This is really, really bad for a player like me who doesn't micro. For the longest time I thought the TEC or Advent must have some sort of special ability that turned off my engines because half my frigates (from phase gates) would get left behind when I retreated. It was really irksum because I'd lose a lot of my fleet if my attack failed because the ships would stay behind and get blown to ribbons by the enemy fleet. Last game I finally realized what it is, the missile barrage deactivates engines and then doesn't turn off until the gravity well is clear of enemy ships, meaning those ships can't be retreated without extensive microing (took me 10 minutes and ~20 ships to get them back to the safety of the rest of the fleet after I noticed what was happening. I tried deactivating the ability then disabling it's autocast but that didn't seem to work for some of them).
In a similar manner the phase shield doesn't deactivate on its own. It activates just perfect, ignoring small fleets but saving the structure from the larger, more dangerous enemy fleets. However it never seems to deactivate, I watched one (a couple of games ago, before the 1.02 patch, not sure if it still goes this long but it still happens) stay up for 45 minutes with no attacking ships in the gravity well and with the autocast off enabled.
Anyone else seen these or know how to fix them (without mods)?
