if you have XP

go here :

C:\Documents and Settings\whatever your system is called\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Setting

Edit the USER FILE (in notepad)

change these 2 settings :

VideoFullScreenWidth 1024 make it 1280
VideoFullScreenHeight 768 make it 720

and save it! you should be good to go

What are you connected to the HDTV with... what kind of cable?

Yeah, your HD set is only 720p. The higher HD stuff is 1080p which is 1920x1080 resolution, which is higher than the 1280x720 of 720p stuff.

Is it only the game that can't fit entirely on screen, how about normal Windows stuff like web browsing or email? If normal Windows isn't all on the screen, thats the TV's fault.
If thats the case, the nvidia has a screen adjustment thing that you can slightly shrink it to fit on your TV screen. You may be able to do this even if its only the game like that. Since you have the nvidia 8600 I'm pretty sure it can do that, I know most nvidia cards are good about that. Are you using vista or XP?

Also remember, in the Sins settings file there are TWO places where it has a resolution. One is for playing in a window, the other for playing full screen. Its easy to mix these up, I've changed the wrong one myself before.
Example from mine:
VideoFullScreenWidth 1920
VideoFullScreenHeight 1080
VideoWindowedWidth 1900
VideoWindowedHeight 1000
So make sure to change the right one, or just change both.
Try both 800x600 and 1280x720 since you said your monitor supports both.

I'm guessing you can't change the resolution from within the game in the options menu?

Also check to see if this (near the resololution lines):
VideoRefreshRate 60
is at 60, that sometimes helps.


Oh and another thing I thought of. Is your TV set to ZOOM? If your TV is widescreen and is set to zoom normal TV like the news and commercials so it can fill whole screen without bars, it would be doing the same thing to the game Make sure your TV is set to widescreen 16:9 mode (if its a widescreen set)

Hopefully one of those things help. There can be lots of causes for issues like this.

is this the only game you are having the problem with?

and the game does support wide screen... i play at 1680x1050

what does your monitor support? and have u tried what i suggested above?

i got no idea what resolutions this thing supports.

I just have one problem i don't have any file in that folder that i can edit. My game did not creat that file. What do you suggest now ?

I have only 3 resolutions:1280x720, 960x600 and 800x600. I use XP, and when I try to change the resolution inside the game there aren't any resolution listed. And I think I just can see 60% of the total screen.

Correct. Even if you can force the game to 1280x720, it would be messy (if it works at all). The resolution needs to be at least or more than 1024 wide, and 768 high. Simply having more total pixels won't cut it if one or the other dimension is less than the min.

If you're on DVI-D (as opposed to analog-over-DVI) though you should theoretically be able to get a 1:1 pixel mode on the TV. Most 720p LCDs are physically 1366x768 resolution.

Well this LCD tv has nearly every connection i can think off, An no its not on zoom that was actually one of the first things i checked .. i will though ceck the aspect ratio... other then that everything you suggested checks out fine... but things are still going off screen from the game everything else out side the game fits the monitor pefectly, as if i were using one of my 17' Monitors... So .. any other ideas...

put the game into windowed mode and scale it to fit, lol

Oh my god, I'm SOOOOOO irritated that this game doesn't support 1280x720. It says it supports widescreen, and it does, but only a very limited set. Wake up to the 21st century Stardock.

I just picked up the game today at Target. Woot! I guess I have sort of the same problem; the only widescreen resolution that I'm presented with is 1680x1050, but the game is a bit too slow on my crummy system at that resolution. I can play much better at 1024x768, but the screen is distorted because the aspect ratio is wrong. I'd really like to be able to use a lower wide screen resolution. In addition, I can't find the settings file mentioned, the only thing in that directory is a subdirectory called License which contains a file called sig.bin.

Works fine for me in 1440x900, it was even selectable through the ingame settings.
