Planet Texture

ok I`m sorry Cari and Brad I could not wait to check things out !!!

Let me say you guys have done a wonderful job on this game,... Just
when you though it was as good as needed,.. here you come with something new !!!
keep that up BTW.
the way the new planet Texture are is awesome!!!
here are a few i played with,... and yes i put it back the way it was so i can test
the beta with out mods,... sorry I had to do it ...

the top pic is the tile map and the bottom pic is the planet map

When we are making a custom maps,..

Are we going to beable to pick Planet Texture in the editor

for the planets ???

You made those texture maps with LunarCell? It looks like it, and the first two pictures of Earth aren't looking that good

Anyway, I am surprised that now the Terrain map looks exactly like the Texture map, how did someone make that possible? Is that in the new version of GC? I also noticed that the Colony in the first Lunarcell picture is located in the Glacier parts of the map, which isn't supposed to be. Usually the game creates a random point where the Colony is, but most of the times it's in the centre of the map.

If this is how the new terrain images are going to be, will the game be able to spot what locations are glacier, grassland and even volcanic?

It's in TA. The textures are shown on the planet screen.

The RAW maps are still used to decide tile types and such, but now it's only for background purposes and is never actually seen by the player.

Sorry for the late response, there is no other programme I know of to make nice looking texture maps for planets, all that I know are not free, and only for experienced people. I suggest you read some guides on the Internet and try making your own, like I do sometimes.

Or just wait for TA to come out, i hear from a pretty credible source that it will have some very nice looking custom planet textures... Some of which were made by a very talented (and might i say damned good looking) artist that regularly visits these boards........

You may wish to visit both the follwing sites and try out some versions to compare efficiency, but i've found these to be the pinnacle of planets texturing candybar tools;

I believe there are numerous other programs which take similar approaches to creating planetary surfaces (Terragen, Bryce, etc)... but not in as slick and direct interfaces as the above mentioned. Specialized tools for the job, i guess.
