Quick question about race picks

Heya!

Just started to play with Dark Avatar and wanted to make a good custom race. It suprised me that as a custom race i can spend 15 points on abilities but all the other- built-in race has very powerfull inherent bonuses and an extra 8-10 spendable points. For example the Altarians have Economy :30, morale 20, research 25 (equivalent around 12 points) and extra 10 points to spend. (I know there are some extra factor: they get less logistic and maybe a few less points in starting tech but they also get better homeworld.) I have found every civ to be stronger than those we can make by "custom civ". ( the Yor gets around 20 points and better logistic, 100 loyality, miniaturization bonus..)

Is it intended? How is it balanced then?

One more thing: If I start the game without spending that 10 extra point the game automaticly spend some-but not all- on random(?) abilities (it spends 5 points out of the 10) strange for me

How is it balanced then?

Custom races are more...custom. With a stock race, sure they have nice abilities, but those abilities are bound to the super ability of that race. With a custom, you can pick a wider spread of abilities AND pick from any of the super abilities to go with it. Some people think that that extra versatility isn't worth a couple of ability points, but Custom Races can hold their own against the stock races just fine.

With any political party to focus more on a desired area, but I prefer Technologists to make up for the one thing I feel I am missing - Research! The only downside is that, as long as you have a bit of breathing space at the start, you are pretty much guaranteed to win!

My personal race of this build is called The Hive. They are a mostly insectoid assortment of semi-sentient species native to extreme worlds. They are controlled across the expanses of the galaxy by a mysterious, omniscient Overmind. The Overmind has been known to forget to keep an eye on the time and has ended up going to bed too late and having a headache the next day.
