Driver crashing?

Hi, I don't have a debug file unfortunately, I couldn't find one in either DA or DL folders.

When the game is trying to autosave, or possibly play a movie, it keeps freezing up and telling me that the driver ialmrnt.dll has stopped working, and I need to restart.

"The ialmrnt5 display driver has stopped working normally. Save your work and reboot the system to restore full display functionality. The next time you reboot the machine a dialog will be displayed giving you a chance to upload data about this failure to Microsoft."

This started happening after I updated the drivers for my onboard graphics card, which is
an intel 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV.

I read through the troubleshooting threads and didn't see anything about.

Any help would be appreciated.

are you looking for the debug.err in the My Documents folders, or the Program Files folders?

For DL the folder would be C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2

Unfortunately, on further reading, it seems the only solution may be to install a previous version ... hoping this isn't the case, though.

If you can find a different version of video drivers on intel's website or elsewhere, try them. The messages:

Debug Message: Error flipping back buffer to primary buffer.
Debug Message: D3DERR_DRIVERINTERNALERROR
Debug Message: Driver internal error
Debug Message: Encountered internal driver error.

Indicate that there was a failure in the video driver itself.

I have the same graphics card... I'm also getting some random crashes from time to time. My driver is fully updated, I don't know what it could be except that the graphics card sucks (which it does...).

I just deleted mine (kept a copy in a different folder) ... hasn't happened again since then, but probably want to be careful doing that.

This has started happening to me again too, even though the driver's gone. It really makes playing a chore because of the long loading times and loss of everything I've done the past few turns, and more often than not I just find myself quitting whenever it happens.

Searching online turns up a lot of issues with this same driver, but no solutions.

Get a decent video card. The onboard Intel ones are crap, spend a few dollars getting something half decent. You're fortunate you can even play the game on those things, most games these days don't even support them.

Its in a laptop that's 2 years old. The same problem did not occur for Galciv 2, apart from the prettier graphics, what's changed?

DA is a bit more demanding than DL, it's something that alot of people have been noticing. More features requires more horsepower on your system and I guess your video card just can't handle it anymore. Laptop video cards are notorious for not being able to play games all that well, they're just not designed for them. Like I said, you're lucky to be able to play the game at all on such a crappy card, most games wouldn't even run on that thing, or just barely. Maybe there'll be some performance improvements in patch 1.6, but that might be awhile yet. In the meantime, maybe you should try and find some other system to play it on.

I'm getting a new desktop soon, but I prefer the mobility of the laptop

I'm just wondering if anyone can narrow down what might cause this random bug? I.e. going to a certain screen, or enabling a certain type of graphical option, that I could then turn off and continue to play normally. I guess not enough people are experiencing this issue.

Oh god I'm having the same problem, long load times, and it freezes every 5 mins while i play the game saying ialmrnt5 display driver stopped working, whats a man to do!? the old one (dread lords) worked just fine.

I have a dell, what graphics card would someone who knows there stuff reccomend?
Hopefully it would be... cheap
