I'm looking for some thoughts on an idea for a weapons mod. What I'd like to do is encourage more of a different defense layout for larger ships vs small.
Example
Shield Generators are easy to protect small ships, but the larger the ship, the more power and size of generator needed. Small ships receive more or better benefit from shields then large ships.
Armor Plating is bulky with several layers needed for good protection, small ships don't have the space for it, only larger ships make use of it.
Small Ships: Good against laser weapons, poor against ballistics
Large Ships: Good against ballistics, poor against lasers.
The second part is easy, by making Armor defense items with a large size, they won't fit on small ships, but will on big. The first part is tricky. You can use sizemod for a percentage of hull size, on smaller ships it's ok, on larger ships it takes up more hull space then armor plating would making plating more efficant from a size vs value stand point on large ships.
Does this sound interesting enough or change gameplay enough to warrant a mod? Would it be fun?
