This would make sense, except the way that the game is modeled is that the people now living on Drenji are not Drenjins, but your own race. Were I to move to Japan, but there were not more Japanese living there, it doesn't mean that I would naturally become good at making authentic Japanese food.

Similarly, the soldiers that you take from Drenji are members of your own race who have resettled. They thus only have your own native abilities.

I think if I conquer a planet, unless its genocide/biological warfare, there are going to be civillians. Especially if I get to keep their planetary improvements.

it only makes sense that when a particular race is assimilated into your own, that you add some of their essence to your own. Just ask the Borg.

Even if there are civilians left on conquered planets it does not mean they are going to fight for you as effectively as they fought for their own civilization.

That said it would be nice to be able to model in, different cultures fighting alongside each other with differing bonuses. But the game doesn't suffer without it.

I'd love to see Masters of Orion style where you know how much of each population is still on a planet. We even got to manufacture androids towards the end.

Gal Civ is definitely the spiritual successor to MOO. There is many things to be learned from its design.

I tried to think of an analogy that where some one had taken the chess peices on a board and made up their own game to it. They have some really shiney peices and they've added dice and flipping a coin.

You come walking along and say "Hey, thats cool and all, but what if I show you how chess is played?"

"Waaaaa" they reply "I've never played chess, but I am glad I never have. Why you want to change my game?????"

You mention how that over many years the game of chess has become finely tuned and balanced in such a way that even though it is simple to learn, it is challenging to master and that it's elegant interface of a simple board and peices, there are so many moves/strategies!

He says "Waaaaaaaaaaaa.....we can't learn from the past! Why you want me to play your game."

Then I realized that the analogy fails beacuse it makes you sound like a child who can't see the value of a finely tuned, incredible, classic strategy game. You wouldn't be that, would you?

It would be a good idea to give small bonus for taking over a planet from an alien race though influence. Based on the population and race get a % bonus in something.

I would like to see something like this implemented (And yes, another former MOO player. I'm playing the Psilon's - {G}) - I don't think it should be an overwhelming advantage, but contrawise, thinking of the Ghurkas of the old British Empire, I have no difficulty imagining unleashing the 51st Drengin Legion against the Drath, to somewhat better effect than my wimpy Psilon soldiers.

Not that Psilons aren't great in combat, if you can get them to put down their books anyway - .

5-10% would be a bit too much for each planet
maybe if it were a one time thing of taking over a different species, it would make sense
