Question about Trade Goods

First time poster here. GalCivII is the best game I've played since MOO2...have really enjoyed it so far. My questions are about trade goods like the Xinathium Hull Plating or the Harmony Crystals. 1. Once a certain race builds them, are they still available for the other races to build? 2. Can you actually trade them with other races, and if so how? Do you trade them through the diplomatic window in exchange for items or tech from another race? Do you have to use a freighter from that planet? Thanks in advance for any insight.

2) Yes, through the diplomat window in exchange for anything or nothing, no frieghters involved.

The key point with trade goods, IIRC, is that when you trade them you don't lose them yourself. That is, you're essentially sharing the effect with another race.

or keeping it away from them. imagine for example selling xintium hull plating to all of your enemy's enemies. sounds like a great tactic for the altarians or drath, if you ask me.
