Why has stardock not created a map editor for GC2 & DA

Anubis, you can do a Google image search and find literally thousands of pics on just about any subject you can think of.


of course! also 'altavista' is good

Yeah, Altavista was my engine of choice for the longest time. To be honest, I can't even remember why I switched. Thanks for reminding me. I'll have to add it to my Firefox search.

To be honest, I can't even remember why I switched


For me, i'm pretty much stuck with altavista anyway because the other search engines continue to ignore the video search option even after all this time!

NB well they might have a video search, but they don't have a nice simple tab menue like altavista which lists video search option nice and clearly.

An example is the google search page. It lists several search options including pictures but where is the video search? Nope, not listed, and that's just plain dumb stupidity.

Any chance Stardock would create a map editor if enough of us would pay a small fee for it (like Microsoft does with XBOXlive add-ons for 360 games)? For me, a map editor is essential for the long-term enjoyment of a strategy game. From Starcraft to Age of Empires II to the Civ games, I have always ended up making custom maps to add challenge after I've played the campaigns and/or beaten the game at various difficulty levels. Eventually, to get that challenge, I have to set the game to the hardest setting but create a custom map that gives me enough "cheats" to offset the AI's "cheats" and give me a 50-50 chance of winning.

I love GalCivII and DA. I play it more than any other game, PC or console. I want to make custom maps and I would be willing to pay for a map editor from Stardock much as I pay for extras for Oblivion et al on the 360.

Pressing 'CNTRL,N' enough times can even the odds. Although CNTRL,N won't help you much in DA due to the crippling of planitery bonuses.

A map editor for me would be good not for cheating, but for creating a more balanced game. Of course i wouldn't need to do that if there was a wider selection of custom maps available - and with more of a range in sieze!

That's good news! I think the planitary bonuses play a big part in the game, increasing strategic variation for players.

To explain why capitols are used in posts:
It makes the post loader so the mods are more likely to hear it and reply.

what he means is a load of bollocks, capitals in posts means the person is either angry or shouting, since emotions can't be passed thru posts they do it thru different sizes and colours usually and capitals are always assosciated with shouting.

To the GalCivII managers and developers: HEED THE MASSES !!!. There is no reason you can put forth that will satisfy us about not making a decent map editor. Sid Meyers CIVILIZATION series has one of the best map editors in existance. You can create random maps with general parameter outlines for size, resource density, etc.. You can build a map tile by tile. You can tile by tile adjust a random or premade map. You can adjust landscapes and their resource output. You can add bonus resource tiles and adjust the bonus level. You can give an individual race any or all techs. You can give a race any or all units. You can make new government types and say which races may use it. You can adjust starting cash and units. This and more. They do this as an integral part of the base product and they do it while charging the same price as you for the game package. While you may see it as extra time and money, most gamers view NOT having one as "cutting corners" and slacking off. While we will still play the game, its still annoying. (kind of like a good bowl of chili: you may enjoy eating it but still get annoyed when it give you gas). While you SHOULD do this for free for those of us who's money you already have, I suppose most of us hardcore gamers would be willing to pay a nominal fee to help you offset expenses.Once again, PLEASE HEED THE MASSES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

See I find it funny when it's said that the fans make better ones. That maybe the cause but nobody has made a map editor for DA and I need one because I'm getting sick and tired of 90% of the maps I've generated sense the game was released having me start to close to the edge for my taste. 8% of the time getting started a good distance from the edge to make me happy but have NO planets I can colonize anywhere near me with the planets, stars, and habitable planets all on abundant and the last 2 percent starting very close to an aggressive opponent (Yor, both Drengin, and a custom race I made) and haveing them get warships out quickly and just destroying me... not fun. I need a map editor to beable to enjoy myself.

Not to mention I got this nice map of our galaxy (can't remember where I DLed it) that I loved playing on and would like to update it and use it in my DA games.

What i usually do is press CNTRL+N. as soon as the new game loads, i just look at the minimap and see the distrubution of stars. I keep pressing CNTRL+N untill i like the look of the star distribution. This saves me allot of heartache, and the need for an editor.

Also, if i'm not in the mood for another civilisation up my ass at the start, i will save the game on the first turn and then quickly explore with my ship without doing anything else. Once i am satisfied with the positioning of my neibours or not, i simply reload or restart.

Is there any information available on the format of the map files? I see they are XML, and pretty self explanatory. I can try to work on a map editor. No guarantees though, my free time is extremely limited. (darn wife & kids )
