I finally figured out how to download the DA expansion, no thanks to the contradictory information being sent to me by emails and what it says in SC.
First of all, when I tried to install it form SC, using the 'install', I get error messages, but no indication of what is causing the problem. I then sent those messages to tech help and a couple other places. When I finally went into my stardock account settings, and tried to register 'DA', it tells me 'no serial is required'. Yet, after trying to register it, it then tells me I've put in an incorrect serial number.
Okay, so I continue trying to install it for the tenth time, continue getting the same 'unhandled error' messages. I try retarting SC numerous times, and double checking my email is correct. Still no luck.
In my 'thank you for shopping at stardock' email, it shows I've purchased DA, but also clearly says 'no serial required'. I ignore this, and I then ask sc to send me my reg info. That email continued my serial number for 'gal civ 2' and...huh?....one for DA. But I thought DA did not require a serial number? It says right in the reg window that it's not required. It says in my emails that it's not required. yet, it obviously is required.
So, I ignore what SC is telling me, and I past the serial into the reg window for DA. Now, when I click on 'install', it works. The rat (me) has made it out of the labyrinth. There should not be a labyrinth in sign up, and ten emails sent to various depts (and back to me) to figure out the problem. And, lastly, the customer shouldn't have to solve the problem himself, by ignoring what the company tells him.
While I'm a big fan of download only games, this is not intuitive. The kinks have to be worked out. Too much contradictory information being put in emails that do not jive with what the stardock central app is telling me.
But all's well that ends well. I'm about to start up the expansion.
