THE PUPOSE OF UNHABITABLE PLANET???

Does unhabitable planets have any purpose or they are just eye candy?

I guesse every elements in a game deserve a function.
What I see for those unhabitable planets are that they are just sitting on parsec.
Or can we build a starbase on unhabitable planets?

We can still extract ressources from unhabitables ones.

What do you ppl think?

They are more like the net in tennis.

They are obstacles that prevent you from having unlimited resources.

They also add a random element to the game. I'm going to explore over there... will I find lots of juicy high-PQ planets, or will I find nothing but junk?

Like the net in tennis, they are a difficulty that you must overcome.

They do serve as potential false positives (you can't just get stellar cartography and fire off colony ships to every planet knowing it'll be useable. Other than that they're just a bit of bitter reality--some planets (gas giants) just aren't going to be terribly useful.

Also there is an event that will make a planet habitable, but other than that they are just there to fill up the map.

Uninhabitable planets keeps some level of "realism" in the game. Look at our solar system. How many habitable planets are there where citizens would be *happy* to live? One definitely (Earth), perhaps two (add Mars).

Also, new minors introduced during the game convert these into PQ15 planets very nicely.

Yah, yah... the "pupose"(must be a new sea mammal)of the "unhabitable"(can't quite translate that one)...wow, we really suck at grammar and "all dat stuff like dat"!

Hah i have a funny story about unihabbitable planets. I found one that was a minature replica of earth upside down with a green ring around it. What more there where city lights on the dark side of the planet. Kinda made me wonder.

Ceres, Ganymeade, Callisto, Titan, the Moon.

One thing I've seen that's definitely missing are truly marginal planets, class 1, 2, and 3. I've never seen them to start with, and have seen only one 3 as a result of my rather abusive use of mass drivers on a class 5.

As far as I'm concerned, the only class 0's should be gas giants. I think there should be some colony cap penalties for using lower grade worlds, but they should still be able to be used.

For those planets that have moons as eye candy, some kind of special colony add on or bonus should exist. Something to make them a little more desirable than the others. Its nice eye candy, its even better as a feature.

This may be a little off the post but do you mean inhabited planets with a moon or uninhabited planets? I always thought that moons around a planet gave a production boost and rings around a planet gave a research boost. Is this so?
