Well, I do a similar thing, but I don't go really overboard with it.
Heck, in my last war with the Yor I even lost a ship. And I have lost as many as three in some other wars.
I name mine S99_ so they are available for any race I play, although I always play as the Custom Race. And I don't replace the stock hulls, just add to them. You can either make them as Hull3, Hull4 etc or simply name them as the model design like Battlecrab. It does make them available to the other races as well once they have researched the correct techs, but I have never seen them used. But then, I have never really looked closely at the names, only the ships design in the viewer, so they may be using them the same way they are in yours. I'll have to check it out.
Perhaps the better way to gain your advantage is through the bonuses in the .raceconfig file. You can up the hit points and defenses there as well. And then you can keep the actual hulls at more reasonable values that won't give the AI invulnerable ships.
I also added my own hull tech called Diamond Hull Design that increases hit points around 250%, and made it a very expensive tech to research. It gets interesting when the AI gets it too.
I guess I just want the advantage without being literally unstoppable. So the hulls I add have a little more hit points, more speed and sensor range, and still the normal maintenence costs. I seldom build more than a dozen warships, so the cost factor is no big deal.
