Diplomacy Suggestion

How about a "What do you want for X?" or a "What will you give me for X?" button? As in, you select something from them you want, and rather then having to spend a long time trying to figure out what a fair trade is, they just suggest something. The same thing could work the other way, you select something you don't mind trading to them and they offer up something in return. Obviously the AI would reserve the right to initially offer up a deal in their favor, but I think this would be more realistic. You could get something of a back and forth going. Say you selected a technology and they asked for 5000 bc. You could then offer 4000 bc and they might say no, but if you offered 4700 bc they might say yes. Any thoughts?

Thats interesting. Even more so the fact that you pointed out that the AI may attempt to exploit your bargain in their benefit. Perhaps having higher diplomatic skills can determine the chance of the other civ offering you an honest bargain on the first try. Though perhaps by giving the AI alot more than they needed can effect the willingness to trade items, techs etc. in the future. Improving overall relations, so in essence giving them exactly what they want may lead ever closer to that friendly factor. However bargaining with them may only grant a neutral or warm relationship.

Another thing I was thinking of was that your ability to negotiate a shrewd deal might end up affecting your diplomacy ability. This would probably be too drastic a change for anything but an expansion or sequel, but for example, if you agreed to a lot of deals that were in favor of the AI, your diplomatic ability would go down. On the contrary, if you were able to negotiate in favor of your empire, it would increase...
