Galactic Guidebook Bug?

I've never been one to use the sensor techs much, but when playing a gigantic map recently I did research the sensor level that allows you to build the Galactic Guidebook. It says that it's supposed to reduce the cost of the survey module to zero, so that you can add it to any ship. After researching the tech and then building the GGB, the survey module still cost money for new ships. Is this a bug, or am I misunderstanding the goal of the GGB?

No, actually he's right. The cost and size of the survey component doesn't change after you build that. Or it didn't the one time I actually built it.

it actually does reduce the cost of survey modules to 0, but the size remains the same... also I don't think it updates it in the component list, but select it and you'll find you're ship will cost the same as without!

Quite worthless since most of the anomalies are taken by the time you get the Guide book.

Yes the wonder needs to be offered somewhere much more near the beginning maybe more near to medium build ships and or after researching basic life support.

Maybe I'm playing the game wrong. By the time I get around to building this thing, it is long since obsolete since there are little or no anomalies left to explore. And, FWIW, it is more the size of the module that I find important, and not the cost.

EDIT: I've never seen the AI go for the Galactic Guidebook, and if you think about it, at zero cost modules, how many ships with survey modules would you have to build in order to recoup the costs?

Definitely, the size of the module at least as improtant than the cost. Even if you just wanted to outfit all your scouts with survey modules, the size would prevent them from carrying many (if any) sensors.

if i get you right, too many sensor modules wouldnt be anything to worry about.
If you have 1.1 theres a sensorrange cap so it doesent matter if you had a hundred surveymodules, your sensorrange still wouldnt exceed the cap.

What I meant was that if you put a survey module on a scout (if it even fits), there would be little room for any sensors you'd also like to put on it. So making your scouts (which are the most logical ships to put the surveyor modules on, IMHO) do double suty as surveyor ships doesn't work well because the scouts couldn't fit many sensor modules once you pack on the surveyor module.
