Ahh! I thought that was defended!

Or, why can't the game do all the work?

After collecting a large number of planets on a gigantic map, I sometimes realize that I havn't checked that they are all defended. I really would like to have the game give some sort of icon or graphical notification in the planet list to let you know who is and isn't defended. It can be a real pain to cycle through them all when you own a great number that may not all be in your area of influence.

Also, it would be great if the game would keep track of all my starbases in a list as well as planets and ships. I just can't be bothered to remember what the heck I am doing when a game lasts for weeks.

Why can't it do everything for me while I just watch? What, am I supposed to play the game or something?

A shield icon will appear to the lower right side of a planet if a ship is in orbit. I know this doesn't tell you if it's defended but it helps.

The game does have a list of starbases. It's hidden in the "List ships" button, then select the "starbases" tab.

Yes we are all aware of this, even the poster of the question. But when you have 20 odd planets it takes forever to look for the shield. The shield should also show up in the planet list.

I pull back on the mouse wheel to minimum zoom to check things like that.
Try it and see if it helps at all.

Really, the colony manager screen needs to show both planet focus and whether they're defended or not.

It'd be nice to have the shields on the planets list: consistency is always good. Then again, I still want to be able to see ships in orbit moving around the planet, kinda like freighters on their routes. You are supposed to get lots of information just by looking, and reducing clickage is a good thing.

Indeed, when i start i change focus on some planets and take me ages to look through all of them to check if i changed it back after it is no longer needed

Anything that reduces screen-switching clickage is good - ideally I'd like to be able to do everything except place tiles without leaving the planets list, including rearranging and buying social items, changing focus, checking defence fleet, changing rallypoint, etc. Really, all this could be done with the addition of a few new buttons.

Last time I checked, I think I saw shields displayed in the Planet list.
Not on the Civ manager but on the Planet list, it shows up.

Am I wrong?

I really looked for that starbase list before posting. I really did. How do you miss something right there? Ah well, thanks for the pointer.

Maybe for 1.2 they throw in the sheilds and focus icons for the planet list? Or at least for the civ manager planet list maybe? Come one pleeeeeeese??
