I have recently downloaded the newest update to Galactic Civilizations 2, the 1.1 update. After installation I discovered that the game no longer runs on my computer. That machine does not have an internet connection, and so cannot register electronically. For all intents and purposes, the 1.1 update broke my copy of Galactic Civilizations.
I understand that I can e-mail Stardock to have the game fixed, and I understand that this is promised to take place within 24 hours unless I have this difficulty over a weekend. However an update should not be programmed to require technical support immediately after it is installed. Whatever the promises I am being made, the fact boils down that I cannot play my game because of the update I downloaded, an intentional feature of the update no less. This was a poor choice on Stardock's part.
I enjoy your company and its fine work. I have purchased Gal Civ 1, obviously I have purchased Gal Civ 2 and as things are going, I will undoubtedly purchase any Gal Civ 3 project that comes down the pipeline. Your commitment to your customers has traditionally been excellent, and you vie with Blizzard in your commitment to keeping your products alive and supported. Given this track record, I am asking that you not continue to create patches which break users' copies of their games.
Thank you.
