What happened again?

When turns last too long...

I can spend quite a bit of time on one turn when playing on large maps. Sometimes, I even save and return in the middle of a turn. I know, I know... not a good idea. Anyway, sometimes I forget what happened at the beginning of the turn. You know, events and what have you. Any way to go back and review the list again? If not, it would be a great addition for 1.2.

I would suggest keeping a notebook by the computer and logging in it when you're taking a long time. This has the added bonus of allowing you to take it with you so the next time you're waiting, say in the Dr's office, you can pull out the notebook and be reviewing the game, maybe even retweak your strategy.

That is not a bad idea. The only issue I see with it is that I go through a great deal of effor to not write on paper;) I carry a PDA for that. Guess I'll just have to break down and write it down.

A few days ago I'd have to reply that this is a problem I've not seen. However, playing a game running the latest beta (which has sped the game up quite a bit), I did notice the only thing that slows the "end turn" process down on my computer: ships; specifically lots of ships.

at one point I set every starport to build a constructor and set a waypoint to have every constructor go to one point in the galaxy. Keep in mind there's still freighters & other civ's ships. After a few turns, I've got 70 constructors racing across a gigantic map. If I had to guess, I'd say that put the galaxy ship total over 300, maybe closer to 400. The game moves each ship individually between turns. That takes some time.

I would like to add my 2c in favor of a "history log" where i could review each turn's (and possibly former turns') events.

as the game goes along more fleets are fielded.. but what aggravates me is seeing so many odd freighters going around like chickens with head cut off. They don't bee line towards any planet for some odd reason but they take up processor time with their wastings.

i think those headless chicken frieghters are what happens when an AI builds more frieghters than it has available trade routes... it just keeps bouncing them from potential trade target to potential trade target, realizing at each one that it can't create a new route.

when the empire gets a new trade tech, then they actually set a route when they arrive.

what really slows things down for me is when somebody, usually the Torrians, fills thier space with transports. eventually, it starts taking 5-20 minutes between turns.

that was two betas ago, though, on largest galaxy size. i like the epic feel, but it hurts. downloading the new beta now to see if it's any better...
