specific espionage

there was some button on the foreign management screen where was written how many bc u spend to espionage the other faction.I think it is very useless bec I dont want to know general things about my enemies I want to steal their technology too.so I was wondering if it is not possible to make some option to train special spys to stealing some special technological researchings which is categorised.for example I want to steal the diplomatic researchings from another faction.this way it could be much more interesting to spy my enemies.dunno maybe some ppl dont agree but its something like the carrier or the starbase topic...much needed but not there.

It is useful because you can see what ships they have in planetary orbit, what they're building, what improvements they have on their planets (i.e. you might want to capture a manufacturing capital or economic capital, etc...). That general information can be very powerful when it's used appropriately. Beyond that, you will periodically steal tech when you're at the most advanced level too.

I like the way it is implemented - it adds some suspenseful fun and there is little mm to distract from the immersive game experience.

This is a strategic level game - leaders generally don't know what their spooks are doing -plausable deniabily and all - they eventually get the data, but only when the spooks are successful.

As far as the starbase and carriers - starbases are too powerful now IMHO, and carriers are not needed as the combat and fleet system stand now. You can make very fast long range ships that can get anywhere very very quickly with the right techs - what purpose (beside eye candy) would a carrier serve with the existing game mechanics?

I like Galciv2, and don't want a clone of some other games features ...

If by "periodically" you mean "almost never" then yeah, thats true

If thats your reasoning how about making it so that you occasionally get false information, or deliberately misinterpret information to suit your own ends? Then your people find out and theres a massive backlash against your party.

And as for starbases- aren't they still quite vulnerable?

Ahem, you can steal technology. Get it to advanced, and it's automatic. Also, it's the most useful feature in the game, you can see their planets, their capabilities, their financing, their state of the art ships armaments, you can win a war with the information.

And if that isn't enough, the expansion pack (Dark Avatar) is Drengin based, with a LOT of espionage improvements.

And we have absolutely no need for carriers, because AFAIK when you take over all the planets involved in making a starbase (constructor wise) you get the starbase. Either that or I have a really cool bug.

I enjoy the espionage implementation...always put in a little over a long period, and it'll pay off. It is extremely helpful when you need to know what techs you will require to counter an enemy force...and as mentioned, stealing the techs are really satisfying.
My last terran game, I won solely through influence and espionage.

personally i steal lots of tech from my enemies, like has been mentioned, you have to reach the advanced level and its not specific as to what you are trying to steal, but i have stolen vast amounts of tech from them, enough to even catch up to their level when i was very, very far behind

The coolest thing about espionage in the Beta is being able to see where enemy ships are heading. Good to know that those massive Drengin fleets on your borders are just passing through on their way to hit the Torians. But wouldn't it be devious if the AI set them on targets as decoy then changed their orders right in the middle of your space! Thats what I would do if I were playing against a human.

Also, are the AI's doing spy work too? Can I assume at a certain point in the game the AI can see my ship movements and planetary improvements? If so, then I think once you get to the point where it says no more spending needed at that point if you kept up funding you would go into counter-espionage mode, using your contacts in their government to root out their spies in your own government to the point you knock back their level of intel. Of course they could do same to you and you'd have to start spending again. Or you could have a slider that directs your espionage spending towards espionage/counter-espionage.

I'm sure the interview Brad had stated counter-espionage and specific agents. If not, then I'm putting a little bit of pressure on them

EDIT: found it all

+ Last vestiges of aborted feature "Propaganda" eliminated. Expansion pack will have "agents" that players and AI can assign to do mischief and counter-mischief instead.

At some point there will be an expansion pack that will continue the story and has many few features planned such as add hot-seat multiplayer, add advanced covert options for espionage (agents), per-race tech trees (each race have its own tech tree), user-created opponents, Lots more options, Scenario Editor, Map Editor.
