This might sound stupid,but if you are new and don't know this you could get into the same trouble like me.
When I first started playing I set most color options to black (ship,ect..) I didn't know however what effect setting the interface to black would have.Turns out that the black option shouldn't be in the game for the interface.Every damn slider and option was black and with the black backgound...you don't see a damn thing.
The problem however was that when I was playing I forgot about the colour option pretty quickly and so I ended up downloading new drivers and whatnot,just to get annoyed that nothing seemed to help (I even started a new game,but I now realise that all the options of the first game are taken).
So in short,remove the black color option for the interface because it's almost unplayable with it (almost,because I actually won the game with not even knowing I could set money for espionage or that I could remove something from the build que).
