Plus, I don't know about anyone else, but I spend over an hour designing just SMALL ships. Imagine when I start making large capitol ships...

Point is, I spend so long making a ship I usally forget what I was doing and have to start going through everything to remember what it was I was doing before I started the ship building LOL I know I know, I have a short attention span or memory or something like that LOL

Yep a independent ship builder, with options to export them and post them on the net would rock.

I guess the work-around for now is to keep a save file from a game where you had all hull types available. Then you load up that game and treat it as the Main Menu Ship Editor. Of course, you wouldn't deck these designs out with any active components, just have them as hulls+extras.
I've been trying to do this for the last couple of days, but I can't make anything as spectacular as the stuff in the Post Your Designs thread, so I always quit in disgust. Curse those guys with their grand visions and their artistic skill!

This is a very good idea.

I usually come to a point where I keep learning new techs in quick succession. Which leaves me upgrading certain ships to fit the right components.

If I was able to pre-design the combiniations of components I wanted for my ship, all I'd have to do in game is merely upgrade my ships and obsolete the weaker design.

Also, if the feature was outside of the game, maybe then something special would be possible in sharing ship designs across the metaverse.

Also wanted to point out that overall though the game is great!
